Hello Markee,

(Moved to safe buying/selling forum)

<span style="color: #006600"><span style="font-weight: bold">What is a charge back?</span></span>

A charge back on Paypal is when you as the seller sells an account and the buyer purchases it. Then the buyer contacts Paypal and says that the purchase was not authorized. Another way that this happens is that someone has their Paypal account hacked and the person that hacked it goes on a spending spree with the funds at which point Paypal will flag the transaction(s) as unauthorized.

<span style="color: #006600"><span style="font-weight: bold">Preemptive ways to protect yourself from a charge back?</span></span>

When someone sells an account via Paypal there are a few things that you need make sure of (and these should be common practice):

<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*]Make sure that they are Paypal verified, no if-ands-or-buts.[*]They must have a verified shipping address [*]And most importantly...the transaction MUST be seller protection elgible which is noted by Paypal here.[/list]

If these above points are no followed I <span style="font-style: italic">strongly</span> suggest not selling to them. If you sell to them and they do a charge back, you are out of luck (unless you get very very lucky).

<span style="color: #006600"><span style="font-weight: bold">I just sold my account and followed the above directions, what now?</span></span>

This is when things require a little leg work. As a Paypal user that uses my account quite a bit I have a Paypal Debit Card (<span style="font-style: italic">debit NOT credit</span>). When I sell an account there are one of two things that I do.

1.) Give a very close friend my debit card and ask them to do a withdraw ASAP from a local ATM. The most you can withdraw in a 24 hour period via Paypal from an ATM is $400.
2.) Run to the ATM myself and withdraw as much as I can.

This is done so that you have <span style="font-weight: bold">some</span> of the money in hand in case of a charge back.

Next you will <span style="font-weight: bold">need</span> to ship the "item." This is done by typing up a paper with all the account information, the Paypal Transaction, and his/her information. You will then ship this via FedEx or UPS as fast as you can (I suggest NOT using USPS)

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-style: italic">MAKE SURE TO REQUEST A SIGNATURE IF IT IS MORE THAN $250!</span></span>

<span style="color: #006600"><span style="font-weight: bold">They just did a charge back, what now!?</span></span>

Do not worry, two things have just happened. One, your Paypal account has probably gone negative if you withdrew the money as I suggested; Two you now have a Paypal claim. This is not a bad thing at all, if you followed all the suggested steps you will be covered.

To be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection:[*]The transaction must be marked eligible or partially eligible for Seller Protection on the Transaction Details page.[*]<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">The item must be shipped within 7 calendar days of receiving payment to the shipping address on the Transaction Details page, and in accordance with our shipping requirements.</span></span>[*]In the event a buyer files a claim, you need to respond to our request for documents and other information in a timely manner.[*]The item must be a physical, tangible good that can be shipped.[*]Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal account, must be in the United States.[*]

If they performed a charge back <span style="font-style: italic">before</span> you shipped the paper it's OK, as long as it is shipped in 7 days you are still covered. I would suggest shipping ASAP so that you can get your money ASAP.

Supply Paypal the shipping information in the resolution department and now it's a waiting game. If you read their terms of service (high doubtful) they will always side with you as long as you shipped the item to the Paypal Verified address and it was eligible for seller protection. It can take up to 10 days to get your money (typically 3-4 and maybe one more if they item just arrived).

<span style="color: #006600"><span style="font-weight: bold">Closing remarks</span></span>

I have had several people do charge backs and by following this advice, I have never been out money nor an account. Just yesterday I sold an account for $700 to a PP verified user with a verified address, I have supplied the information, called them on the phone and talked to the claims department. They have looked at the shipping and see that it is out for delivery and I will have my money in 48 hours as it is protected.

I strongly suggest taking screen shots of the Paypal screen and printing off the AIM conversation. I have had to go to court once due to this and with the large amount of information I provided not only did the court rule in my favor, I won punitive damages of double the amount of the account due to the fact that doing a charge back in this regard is considered fraud and liable for punitive damage in court.

If you have any questions please post them and I will reply as best as I can.

Edit: Originally I said $300 for a signature that should have been $250, my mistake. Moved to the Safe Buying/Selling forum by a moderator, thank you was not sure the original spot to post.

Edit 2: There are slight formatting issues (like the extra dot) but I'm not 100% sure why that's there, it's formatted correctly.

Good guide, moving to correct forum section.
