Should a sell always be confirmed on epicnpc?

Hey @Major512,

If you are able to confirm on EpicNPC who you are talking to on Discord this would apply and it would be investigated as there was contact made on-site. However, if the entire transaction was handled off-site without anyone confirming who they are talking to then it will not be investigated.

I’d recommend staying on site when you can for conducting any kind of trade, but if you rather deal offsite via Discord, I have attached some safety tips for you quoted below:

What should I avoid during a Discord trade?

• Accepting an invite to deal or trade in a Discord group setting, keep it on PM only! Scammers often use these platforms to communicate when dealing as it is very simple to clear any conversation history and ban those they targeted for the scam from the group, leaving no evidence behind.
• Avoid using the search tool on Discord to look up an EpicNPC user, always add them directly. Since Discord ID's can look exactly the same, you might be looking up an impersonator instead using fake characters, and Nitro to get the same # number. There have also been known exploits in the past that allow users to change Discord # numbers without Nitro in some cases, so be warned.

Important Note: If a reputable EpicNPC user contacts you directly on Discord about a post on EpicNPC, be extremely cautious here! Most scammers will do this to attempt to set up deals and take your items or money all the while impersonating trusted users. Always confirm who you are talking to on EpicNPC, and add them directly. Taking an extra few minutes to verify who you are talking to could save you money, time, and effort. So with that said, be smart. Don’t let a quick transaction be your last.

Lastly, keep in mind that Middle Man (MM) transactions through Trade Guardian will always be conducted through EpicNPC. MM’s will NEVER contact you off site.


How do I keep myself safe on Discord?

• Make sure to add the person you are in communication with directly. If the seller/buyer has their discord username in their threads, copy and paste their name into Discord and add them that way. This is a very reliable way to make sure you are communicating with the correct person.
• Always confirm who you are talking with on Discord via EpicNPC website to validate the transaction. This is important to make sure you are actually talking to the person you intend to trade with even if the Discord tags or profile looks the same. Discord usernames are very easy to impersonate and can look identical.

Note: You can also use this account checker linked here to assist in validating ID’s and make sure no unicode characters are being used in their names, as these type of characters are often used by those attempting to impersonate and mislead others, as the charaters can look the same, when in fact it is not.

Well it’s hard to know for sure without checking for fake characters. And since he seems to not be open to validating on EpicNPC, could be a scammer impersonating a rep’ed user like Mike said. I would suggest messaging @mercurial003 here to confirm if you are talking to him on Discord or not, or use the character checker.

It's the discord posted in his post on the forums is how i reached out to him, I just wanted to make sure that I had something to cover my ass by having him confirm the trade (im new to epicnpc and how this trading works) and he just seemed super suspicious. Someone should msg him that knows him and ask whats up. I wanted to do the sell and could provide him with lots of gold weekly but not sure what was up with him. He did even try to say he was a middleman which I can s/s

The issue with discord usernames is that they can be easily faked. You should always confirm its them by messaging them on here. If they refuse to message you on here it is extremely likely a scam and I would recommend not going through with it. Also mecurial is not a Middleman on here so that is highly likely an imposter.

You can match an exact discord username using discord nitro. You can use fake characters which closely matches a discord username as well.

well actually you can save profile pictures on discord by using "Inspect Elements". As for the names, two users can use the same exact name, but numbers will be different, in case you want to have the same exact number you have to change one of the letters to something looks exactly like it and to change the numbers you have to have the nitro sub, but you will not do all of this unless you want to impersonate someone.

I copy and pasted his discord and added him. Nobody added me, so idk how it would be impersonated.

He's a moderator, why doesn't someone talk to him and ask what was going on? I don't think it's cool if a moderator can do this.

Because mods get impersonated 1000x a day. It is just a waste of the staffs time to investigate it every time it happens. Did you check the discord ID? Anyway if they refused to contact you on forum, it is a massive red flag and you shouldnt proceed.

Yes I saw his forum post and profile, copy / pasted into add friends. No way I mistyped a numbe or letter and it happen to be a imposter. the odds of that....

Since he refused to send you a msg on EpicNPC then he is an impostor, and before dealing with anyone at discord you should confirm here via PMs that you are talking with the right person.

While there are many tools you can use to help rule out if someone is an impersonator or not however there is no guarantees, so confirming dealings onsite is the safest way to make sure you are talking with the right person. Furthermore, @mercurial003 posted a rather detailed guide on his EpicNPC profile, so I would suggest you take a look at that or you could use the account checker I linked above:

Anyone not willing to confirm onsite is likely an impersonator, so trading is not advised. The best way to make sure is by messaging him directly.

I was away few days and i just got back, the discord he talked with, wasn't me
He didn't even provided the Discord Unique ID of the impersonator, i explained how to do it on my guide from my profile page which takes 2 minutes or less and is very simple
