<span style="font-weight: bold">While I am invite users to comment on this compilation and the original owners of the quotes to respond and add feedback, I DO NOT want this to become a debate or flame wars. Note that this thread is MEAN TO HELP NEW USERS, not belittle one another...</span>

I have noticed that many new markeedragon users have been confused concerning whether to pay the buyer (yes PAYING - as in they are BUYING) using Western Union or Paypal.

Therefore, for their convenience (and to reduce my AIM messages and emails : ) ), this post will be dedicated to a complication of such ideas from buyers A LOT MORE experienced than me from their previous quotes on this topic.

Note that I am only compiling opinions from TrustWho Verified members on the forums, because I believe that they are in comparison more serious about trading, selling, buying and otherwise protecting their investment here on MD.

People hack paypal accounts easily -- thats why you do research on them before any transaction. IE) Match names, ID's, land lines, address, other steps of verification.

Markee has never had alot of buyers, most buyers are first time buyers who are browsing these boards for the first time, there not gonna have rep, thats why you go with instict on who to sell to and who not to, its quite easy to tell who is legit and who isn't.

Now you say paying via paypal is dumb, As an avid account buyer, Im not gonna run to the store, pay WU fees for every account I buy, if I pay WU I have no protection for that person I bought the account from to recall and I have no way to get my money back via WU, yes you can get money from WU quite easily -- but that's if you pay via Credit Card and many times file a charge with the district attorney's office for internet fraud.

Now Paypal has its loops, ups and downs as we all know, this business is all about how you approach something and how willing you are to ensure yourself of making a safe transaction, its quite easy to avoid getting scammed, just takes a little brains and common sense. </div></div>

Rule of thumb for reselling accounts : )

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I do extensive identity checks on every person I purchase a WoW account from. This account was sold to me by the original owner, and they sent me a scan of their Photo ID when I purchased it from them. This means that if there is ever a problem caused by an ownership dispute and you can contact me, and I will have the ability to contact Blizzard and prove ownership, and get your account restored for you. </div></div>

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">
Granted, this alone will not stop charge backs, and unauthorized transactions. There is no way to be 100% safe as a buyer, however I have found if you verify the person’s ID (either using Photo ID or doing reversed phone lookups to verify their address and then calling their landline to verify it is their phone number) that 99% of the time it will make scammers decide it’s not worth the headache legal or criminal repercussions might make. If you verify their ID and then they do recall the account you at least know you’re dealing with a real person, and have a good idea about where to look for them to pursue getting your money back through legal channels.

In comparison if I send you payment by Western Union you can very well just stop replying to me on AIM and E-mail, and I am left hoping that the Name and Address you gave me wasn’t just a previous address or a fake address, I have no chance of winning a reversal so I have to immediately go through the hassle of pursuing someone legally and/or criminally in hopes that I will eventually someday get my money back after I wasted more time and money than it was worth to teach some irresponsible idiot a lesson.</div></div>

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">There is something that every buyer and seller has to be able to measure, and that's Risk vs. Reward. When I buy an account using PayPal, I am taking a bit of a risk... if something that happens and the account is banned for something that was done on the account before I purchased it or the OO recalls the account I can file a dispute with PayPal, and atleast know there's a chance I can recover my investment without having to go to the extent of taking someone to small claims court and contacting their local law enforcement.

However if I pay someone with Western Union you they can simply call Blizzard and have the account recalled, and my only recourse would be to take the seller to small claims court and/or report them to local law enforcement... and deal with all that hassle and STILL not have any guarantees you will ever see your money back. If they use a false address and are smart at covering their tracks chances are you will never even get them in court.

I evaluate many things when choosing which account out of the hundreds I have offered to me I choose to buy. I'd rather take the 50% profit low risk account over the 200% profit 99.9% risk account any day of the week.

Don't take it personal, I understand if you have your reasons for not taking that payment method, but you have no right to be upset if someone doesn't choose to buy your account because of it.

Making a generalization about people not having money, while in the case of the scammers may be true, it doesn't mean someone not willing to send you a payment via WU is a bum. I could just buy every account I am offered for less than market value, I have plenty of money to be able to do so, but I would become broke very soon as accounts where recalled over and over.

If you are worried about being scammed, MD is not a place for you to conduct business. You have to be able to read people, and be willing to ask for someone's Photo ID, Address, Phone Number, Name, Landline, and then do reverse lookups on everything and make sure it matches if someone seems like they might be a bit sketchy.

If you have a copy of someone's Photo ID, Address, Cell Phone, and Home Phone they are going to think twice before they set themselves up for a lawsuit and/or criminal hassles.

There are many ways to make yourself more secure without taking away the other parties securities. There are two sides to every deal and if both parties are not protected to some degree the deal should just not be done.

Even if the buyer has a paypal account under his/her name, does not mean the money is his/hers. It can often be a parents name, so even if you follow the safe selling practices stickied at the top of this page, they can claim the transaction was unauthorized or completed by a minor who wrongly had access to the account.

To avoid this, I always ask how old someone is. If they are a minor and paying with paypal, I make sure to get consent from a parent before selling them an account. You can often tell if they are lying through a reverse phone look up, since minors aren't listed. So if the names do not match, the person you are buying from is likely a minor. Also, getting an ID is always a good thing.

I've sold to minors often and had no problem so far.</div></div>

I sold an account and:

The guy filed a paypal claim that he did not authorize the payment.

I talked on AIM, no emails...

Do I have any luck? What should I tell paypal?

do you have an email with him stating that he authorizes the paypment? what you can do is check his IP from the header, then take that and give it to paypal. they will then match the IP in the email header (paypal address) to the one where he logged on a payed you.

if they match, he is lying. otherwise, i do not know what you can do. ask some of the users listed above? : )

luck.

Never give out your SQA before payment.

if you must compromise, give him the username and password. then, ask him for a scanned / photographed receipt of payment for WU. after you have the money in hand (and not a min earlier) then give him the SQA first and last name.
