Anytime you message to verify who a user is never simply say “Hi” or “Hello”. The typical response will be someone saying Hi or Hello back. If someone contacts you off-site claiming to be a high repped member & sends you that members profile link. Then message that member on-site and say “Hey, my discord is Example#1234 are you talking to me on discord?” And the repped member can then verify themselves.

In addition to what they have said above, you can simply send a PM to that high repped member but never "Hi" or "Hello", and dont tell him what was your PM about, and instead ask him what was about.
