I've found trading to be the absolutely worst thing to do these days now that transfers are out, also please heed the trading advice on these forums, if someone says they can't show you the character in game when you ask them to (they say for instance "my friends currently on the account") , DO NOT TRADE WITH THEM.
Anyway, here's what happened to me...
Several days ago I was looking to trade my 6/8 DS 1/5 Striker's hunter for a human paladin, I got about 10 AIMs within an equal number of minutes after posting, they all were terrible offers... seriously people offering paladins in soulforge for my hunter, what a damn joke.
Finally I got an 8/8 paladin who wanted to trade, he seemed trustworthy enough albeit rather young (you could tell easily from his typos and aol'er slang). This character was the EXACT character i was looking for to play with my alliance friends, he even offered to let me play on the account before we traded to make me feel more secure with the trade. I played it, and it was fantastic, just what I thought a paladin should be like... We traded and made the deal final, although he didn't want to give me his SQA and I thought that was fine because I just wouldn't give him mine.. I shouldve known something was up but I was naive. Anyway, a few days later he starts complaining about not being able to find a guild on the server I was on ( I was in the top guild for a while and we had a bad reputation for trash talking so no guilds really wanted to accept me). I said that's okay, as long as you give me the $25 I paid to have his character transfered to a new server (retarded me didn't know you could transfer to another account). He agreed to pay me even more than what I asked for $100, he said he'd paypal it to me tomorrow.. I knew something was up by now, but the next day came and went and I didn't recieve any paypal and the guy told me that he couldn't afford to reimburse me atm so he'd give me the paladin back for my hunter.. I agreed as I so happy while playing the paladin, I couldn't resist his offer.
2 days pass, and he sends me an IM

8/8 tier2 Paladin Raazzor: you can tretransfer if its under a day i gotta go out though

The scammer was "Nuka MD" but NOT the moderator of the site, but apparently someone spoofing his AIM name or whatever, I was pretty furious as I knew this jeopardized my newly aquired paladin. But he said he wouldn't take it back, two more days pass and I'm in AQ20 with my friends and I get kicked off, stupid shattered hand server I think, but apparently I was wrong once again and the Original owner of the account kicked me off telling my friends that I scammed him out of his paladin and that he's been trying to get it back for 2 months now. I log on my friends account and talk with him and he seems like a reasonable person for the first 5 minutes but then he starts telling me that I hacked his account and that he's reporting me to Blizzard and my IP would get banned etc.. Meanwhile I realize that this means I'm now accountless (being the original owner of the hunter that I poured more than 80 played days into was now gone)..
Lessons learned :
+Do not trade accounts with people who seem even the least bit suspicious.
+When you do trade accounts, make sure to transfer it to a new account ASAP and after your done, tell the person you traded with to do the same thing.

oh yeah, my friend's guild who was going to give me a tryout now thinks I'M the scammer and now I have no shot of getting into their naxx guild, that and my server reputation has been tarnished horribly.
okay, well that's my scammer story, hope the same doesn't happen to you guys -.-
