Hello,

I play DCS (Digital Combat Simulator) and for a while now I started thinking about selling my account. On it, I have over $600 worth of modules. There are mainly two reasons I wish to sell it:
1. I have a lot of modules/planes that are great, they are pretty much the go-to, best planes and maps someone would want to purchase on this simulator, but I realized those are too many for me personally. Some people like having a lot of options and I realized with my experience that I'd much rather have a smaller number of aircraft to focus on;
2. I have the standalone edition, which is arguably better, but for a while I wanted to move over to Steam, but since the modules aren't transferable to Steam, I would need to buy them again on Steam, so I need to sell my current account, otherwise I'd have duplicates for no reason.

I came across this website as an option to sell my account, but since I am new to it and, from what I have seen, there's a high risk of getting scammed if you don't pay attention, I want to first educate myself as best as possible so as to prevent a scam when I decide to sell my account.

I have read the Buying and Selling Safety Guides and Known Scams sections on this website, but I would like to know a bit more details before I do anything. I plan to make a sale offer
1. How does such transaction work, step by step? Where can I find what it looks like? If I go for one with a middleman, how do I make sure that middleman isn't teaming up with a potential scammer?
2. How can I ensure the potential buyer won't do something to refund his payment and scam me after I gave them the details to my account?

I would appreciate some help with these questions, and any further useful tips or information to set myself up successfully for this.
Thank you!

A seller should first prep an account for sale. They should unlink everything they can and setup a new email address which can they give to the MM. Once a transaction is started the seller would give both the game account and email account to the MM who would then secure the account.

As long as you use our Trade Guardian system, you do not need to worry about a MM scamming you. We have completed over 50,000+ transactions and zero times has a MM been involved in a scam. If a MM contacts you off-site, it's a fake scam account. Only use Trade Guardian to ensure safety.

2. How can I ensure the potential buyer won't do something to refund his payment and scam me after I gave them the details to my account?
There is no guarantee. You can use bitcoin which does not have a payment dispute option or Family & Friend option via Paypal to make it harder to dispute. Venmo and Zelle are also good options for sellers, but they're not available in many countries.

Thank you for clarifying.

For this, do I need to become a Trade Guardian Seller?
Could you explain a bit how setting up a new email works? Like I should transfer my account's ownership to a dummy email which I am going to give the details of? Also, what exactly constitutes unlinking?

I assume there have been cases where even when a middleman was used, after sending the account info and receiving the payment, the buyer still ended up being a scammer and refunding the payment. In such situations, what happens? Is there absolutely nothing the scammed seller can do? Is this a risk impossible to circumvent?

Thank you!

This is only required if you want to use the Trade Guardian escrow service.

Depending on the game it can be different so I can't explain this in detail.

For many games when you login into the account, there is a email attached to it. If that is your person email account, you should update the email to a new email account. This will make the transfer easier and faster when you sell it.

Many games have a "Links" page. You can link Google, Twitter, Facebook and various other accounts. Make sure those are all unlinked.

Yes, this does occur. Our service does not offer protection once a transaction is completed because there is no way to guarantee a seller does not recover the account. When that happens the buyer can report it and we'll investigate the claim. Depending what happens we could issue a ban, but we do not provide compensation.

You do not need to be a trade guardian seller to use the trade guardian services.

If you plan on selling an account we recommend linking to a dummy email so you don't have to give them your personal email. If the account was already created using an email that you do not care about giving up you can skip this step. Unlinked accounts typically means that it is not linked using any social media logins. When accounts are linked they can typically be signed into using the social media or recalled using that social media.

Unfortunately in most cases this is impossible to circumvent. The only cases were you can circumvent this is when both parties are using a method that can't be recalled. Example: Seller is selling in game currency. Buyer is using Crypto.

Alright, thank you for making it clear, I will look into completing these steps when I decide to actually sell.

So technically if the buyer agrees to use Crypto, this risk can be avoided? Since Crypto payments aren't refundable and I would use a middleman, could there possibly be any other weakness that a scammer could exploit?
Also, are there other safe non-refundable ways to get paid? Asking because I don't use Crypto and would much rather use something like PayPal, since I already use it regularly. From a quick google, I saw that Family and Friends payments on PayPal are also not disputable. Is PayPal, then, no-risk to use?

There are other methods. I do not know all of them. Paypal friend and family payments can still be disputed as the person can dispute them via their credit card company or their bank.

Do you know at least where I could educate myself on other methods that are safe? EpicNPC mentioned Venmo and Zelle as "good options", but does "good options" mean they are free of this refund scam risk?

Also, besides these concerns, what are some ways to tell if a buyer could be a potential scammer? Obviously from what I've seen, new accounts are the most risky. But are there more telltale signs that someone might want to scam me? Also, while we're at this subject, my account is also brand new of course, since I barely just learned about this website, so people could think that I am a scammer myself. What can I, as a seller, do to be as trustworthy as possible before my attempt to sell?

From what I've seen on most DCS account sale offers, people simply state the modules they have, how much they are worth and how much they are asking for their account, paired with a screenshot of their orders page on the game's website. When I open a thread to make an offer myself, is there any other information I should add to confirm (or at least ensure to a high degree, since apparently nothing is certain here) that I actually own the account and don't want to do any "funny" business?

Thank you!

I think the hardest part is payment methods...
I would recommend "Crypto", "Wise", " Bank transfers "

Safest one could be "crypto" but if you know nothing about this it may becomes most dangerous too (so check some basic info on YT)

And since you are from Europe I think "Wise" will be the best option. It is combination of Paypal and banking. It has low fees and pretty much fast transfer speed...and about safety from my experience charge backs there are literally impossible... Same goes to "bank transfers" too, but because of high fees only useful if your costumers are located near to your region.

I'll check out the Wise app then. Thanks for the tip!

So, to sum everything up, if I try selling my account and
- I use a Trade Guardian Middleman
- the buyer agrees to use Wise or another app without the risk of a charge back scam;
would there be any other risk of getting scammed? Are there other vulnerabilities in this process?

but what protect the buyer from account recovery?

isnt the point of paypal the threat of charge back vs account recovery ? so bought the buyer and the seller wont use those option unless 1 is scammer right ?
like a mutual distraction option :3 !

Hmm yeah, that is true. But isn't the whole point of using a middleman to prevent this? From what I've read, the middleman secures the account by changing all passwords/emails and whatever else is necessary such that the seller cannot get their account back if they are a scammer.

I guess with these kinds of transactions where you sell an account for money to a stranger on the internet, it seems there's never a way to make the trade 100% secure for both sides. The whole point of this little thread I've created is to inform myself on how to minimize that chance of something going wrong as much as possible and to learn how to make it as smooth as possible.

Regarding what I've asked here, is there any other weakness in the scenario described?

Thank you!

It is impossible to prevent account recovery in most games. All this stuff helps but there typically a way for all game accounts to be recalled.
