Ok so about a year ago when I was a trading newbie, I got my World of Warcraft account hacked - the guy managed to obtain my name, SQA and an buss pass that I gave to him to use as ID(I live in Australia). I was thinking about it and is there anyway to get my account back? He had mmobay rep so thats how he got all my information out of me :S

Anyway is it even possible to obtain the account back?

Thank you!

I would recommend reading the following quote taken from this article (click "this article"!):
Regaining Control of a Compromised Account

If you believe the security of the account you use has been compromised, it is imperative that you perform the following steps immediately:
  • Attempt to reset your password via the Account Management section of the World of Warcraft website. This will prevent a "hacker" from logging into your account in the future. Once you have performed this step, please ensure that the account's security has indeed been compromised and the cause was not something innocuous, such as a forgotten password.
  • If you are unable to reset your password and it is during normal hours of operation (7AM – 8PM Pacific Time, 7-Day Support), contact the World of Warcraft Billing department by phone at 1-800-592-5499 for assistance in the recovery of your account. If it is not during normal hours of operation, please send an email to the World of Warcraft Account Administration group at [email protected]. While Billing will not be ultimately responsible for investigating the incident, we recommend that you contact them if you have not received a response by the time they have opened for business. This is to prevent as much further damage to the account as possible.
  • Run a virus scan for Trojans installed on your machine. Most often, access to the account was obtained through a Trojan, usually a key logger.
  • Change the password for the email account you use. This may have been the method used to obtain your password in the first place.
When an account is reported or its security appears to have been compromised, the World of Warcraft Customer Support Staff will disable access to the account while we conduct an investigation. Once we are confident that account access privileges have been restored to the registered user (and only the registered user), we will enable access to the account. While we will attempt to restore any items/gold missing from the account, we cannot guarantee that lost items/gold will be reimbursed. Reimbursement is only a possibility if the situation is reported within 2 weeks (14 days) from the date the account was first compromised. Additionally, restoration due to an account compromise is offered only once. Should the account become compromised in the future, we may restore deleted characters, but no reimbursement of items/gold lost will be offered.
Basically, you are going to have to call Blizzard ( 1-800-592-5499 ) or email them ( [email protected] ) letting them know that your account has been stolen. I am not 100% positive but I am pretty sure last time I had to call Blizzard to regain access to one of my accounts they asked for my account's secret question answer. If you cannot provide them with that, I believe they ask for the account's registered CD-keys (I have also heard of them asking for either in various situations). Upon giving it to them, they reset my account's password (and possibly my account's registered email address, I'm not sure). The only issue is, if the person who stole your account tries to "recall" it from you after you've already "recalled" it from him, it may result in a locking of the account which means you will have to provide Blizzard with an ID scan (the bus pass you previously mentioned). I am not sure what would happen in the case that the person who stole your account tries to "recall" the account again even after the account has been locked and then provides Blizzard with your ID scan (the bus pass you previously mentioned). I can't imagine an "account recalling war" would end well :S . Maybe someone else here more experienced with this type of thing can give you a more solid answer regarding this.

PS: I would recommend telling Blizzard that you were hacked or keylogged rather than telling them that you tried to sell your account. With the first method, they will probably sympathize and help you, where as with the latter, they will probably not and maybe even take further action.

Hopefully someone else here can correct me wherever I may have been wrong, or add to my post with whatever I may have missed. As nobody else had posted in this thread and I know a bit about this, I figured I would post and try to help you out. :)

yeah thats exactly what I thought I had to do, Im probably gonna have to transfer mage of the account :S
Well, just keep in mind that there have been cases where the original owner of the account can get the transfer of the character, that the scammer paid for, reversed. I'm not sure HOW that usually happens, but I'm just letting you know so you're aware as it seems like the scammer has just as much information on the account as you do. I really hope you can get your account and characters back and that this all works out in your favor. I wish you the best of luck! If you have anymore questions, feel free to post back in this forum, thread, etc. or PM me. I will try to help you out with whatever I can as much as I can. :)

Thanks so much for helping etc, Im sure by now this dudes transfered the character off the account so Im just gonna call up and check anyway but meh just gonna have not be an idiot in the future :X

Seems like you were scammed, not hacked. As for advice, its very easy if your the OO to get the account back as well as any characters that you had on that account. Call Blizzard Billing and Account Support and youll have your account back in 10 minutes once you talk to an agent.

They aren't really reversing too many transfers anymore unless its a clear cut case of hacking, which if they were transferred off the account a year ago, you can chalk those up. If you have your secret answers and what not, you might be able to get the account back if its not actively being played. If someone else upgraded it though, that makes it a bit tougher as Blizzard is becoming less and less acceptant of the "original owner I was hacked a year ago" stories.

I've had my account scammed 2ce and the characters got xfered off both time and added authenticators and you can just call them up or fill out an account recovery form and they'll fix it in like 2-3 days as long as you tell them you were hacked
