This is an unofficial statement as I do not represent EpicNPC in anyway, but I have been asked quite a few times in the past on things to look out for when buying on Epic.

For Payments
I highly recommend you do not buy via Western Union or any such paying method where it is one way and not safe guarded. I have only done two transactions via Western Union, and I have been scammed both times. Only do Western Union if the seller is a trusted member with high feedback.
If you buy via paypal and it is not with a well known seller, only pay via Goods and Services option. On occasion, seller will ask you pay for the Goods and Services option. It is a small amount. If you don't want to pay for it, you can buy via friends and family. The reason why the seller does not want to do Goods and Services is because it only protects the buyer and not the seller. Plus it charges the seller a 0.30 + 3% fee. This fee is more depending if it done from certain countries.
Always Google the Paypal email address being used regardless if you're the buyer or seller. You may find this person is a scammer. I have found scammers a handful of times this way.
If you are buying or selling a very expensive account and they have no feedback or little, ask them to verify upgrade their account. I think it cost 10 dollars. Epic verifies their identity by person providing their Photo ID and phone verification. You could offer to pay an additional $10 if they said they are unwilling to do so because of costs. Depending on the time of day, the verify could take 24 hours so you will have to ask they hold it for you. If they are unwilling to do this, they are either very cheap or a scammer especially if you are willing to pay.
For Middleman Trade Guardian/Buyers/Sellers
Make sure the middleman posts on their Epic account on the post you intend to buy from. There are many people that fake Middleman. Do not trust a skype connection alone.
Make sure the buyer or seller posts on your post. You can confirm their identity a lot easier this way. Some people claim to be people they are not.
You can type any of their names, like mine, jdxhero, into the search box on EpicNPC and can find previous posts to look for any illicit activity and to prove legitimacy of the person.
You can also search google. One my notorious mimic people is jdx hero. That is not me. my name is jdxhero with no spaces. So please be aware of people trying to scam. My Epic account is also verified.
Information you should get when you buy a FFXIV Acct
First, make sure the seller has all the information ready ahead of time. If they do not, do not buy from them until they have all info ready to go. This is used as a stall tactic to withdraw the money from however you paid.
Make sure you will receive the following:
Login/Password
Secret Question/Answer
Date of Birth
If they cannot provide those things, then they would be able to recall the account at any time from you.
Make sure all information is correct. After you receive said information, change the password, secret question, and answer. Do this, or they can recall your account.
Original Owner Arguement
A lot of accounts will claim that they are Original Owner. I have found multiple times accounts that I have sold being resold as Original Owner. So obviously, this is often not the case. The only way to prove they are the Original Owner is if they provide a copy of a photo ID.
If a photo ID is not provided, then there is no way to prove that it is. Links of keys can be manipulated very easily and also cannot be verified. Only a photo ID can be used as proof.
FFXIV response to Account Selling
It is against terms of service, however, they do not enforce it unless you are blatant about it. For example, if you run around in game saying you bought this account for "X" dollars, you will probably get banned. If you just play and enjoy the game, there will be no issue.
I suggest after buying an account, remove all friends, linkshells, and FC. Server Transfer. Name change. The accounts I sell have already done this so you don't need to worry about that, but in my experience from buying from others, this needs to be done.
If you plan to server transfer, you can get a free name change if you make a new char first with your current name on the intended server before the server transfer. World forces you to name change upon server transfer.
