When are GIF avatars coming back?

I wonder why GIF avatars and signatures were removed?
I noticed everything uploaded to the website is converted to a Jpg file.

Any word if it will ever be added back? I'm kinda jealous seeing people with their fancy animated avatars and signatures.

It's being worked on. We're re-examining how images are uploaded and stored so it could be a bigger update than just fixing gifs. Most likely the update will be ready by mid-Sept.
