Reverse IP search added

I'm happy to announce a new feature, reverse IP address lookup has been added for Premium Pro Sellers. If you know someones IP address you'll be able use it to generate a list of EpicNPC usernames if there is an exact match.

The new feature is being restricted to Premium Pro Sellers due to the fact that in most cases normal buyers and sellers won't know each others IP address. On the other hand a Premium Pro Seller who runs a website can check their customers IP addresses in our database to see if they are a known scammer or previously banned member.

This can provide added security for those running their own business and should help greatly reduce the percentage of disputes due to scammers.

The only other restriction is with the search itself which doesn't allow for partial IP searches (IP range search). You must enter the full IP address.

The Reverse IP Search page can be found here. Only members in the Premium Pro Seller usergroup will be able to access this page.

Well well this seems like a major infraction of privacy laws. It is one thing that a admin of a website can view the ip adresses of there users. It is something else of sharing that info with others.

I for one don't like the fact that someone else can do a search of my ip and be able to see what username i use on here.

For one imagen a wow admin making a pro seller account. This would end up in a banning spree around wow.

It is a reverse IP lookup, meaning the person using the search already knows the IP address. We are not revealing anyone's IP address. Again the person doing the search already has to know the full IP address, so there is no privacy issue.

I don't see how that would lead to bans. For the sake for argument, lets say a WoW employee did create an account here and upgraded to Pro Seller to access the Reverse IP lookup.

The WoW GM does an IP search using the IP of a WoW player that was recently banned for gold selling or something. He does a reverse search and finds 2-5 usernames. Now what? All he gets are usernames. How does that lead to a wave of WoW players getting banned or even 1 extra ban?

He can search the posts of those members on EpicNPC to see if they posted any other contact info publicly, but most likely all he'll get is another username for Skype or AIM.

The WoW GM already has more infomation about this player then EpicNPC has. The GM knows the IP address, username, character names, email addresses, real name, billing info and other WoW accounts the player has.

It would a complete waste of time for a WoW employee to use the search when all it gives you is a username, which the employee probably already knows.

The search only displays information that is already publicly known. Blizzard can already see everyone's username here, so they don't need to use the reverse IP search, they can just look at the WoW forums and see the usernames of all the buyers and seller if they wanted to start banning people that way.

It would of course be ridiculous because usernames alone means nothing since many people user similar usernames. There is absolutely no risk in making this tool available.

I really like that this is an option. I just wish others (not just pro sellers) had access to this tool.

Hit the enter key after you put the IP, works for me.

wow admin believes someone to have bought a account. fills in IP :: spots a username :: search :: hey i am interested in account x :: ban ingame.

you do know everyone can get eachothers ip threw skype right?

i for one do not like the idee that anyone can check my ip threw your system and figures out who i am on here.

Please take the time you put into your replies into thoroughly reading the context of replies made to you.
The very first sentence in this thread says only Premium Pro Sellers (Aside from Mods) have access to this feature, to elaborate it for you: Registered Users, Epic Members, Epic verified, Trust Who verified do NOT have access to use this feature.

He never said you had to pay to remove yourself from this feature. He said those usergroups are excluded from using the feature.

Read the hole topic before making comments. I was not replying soly on the last post from Mike. You can reverse IP search if you are willing to give your mighty admin 60$. So anyone or any company that wants to check if specific ip adresses are curency dealers - account sellers and or buyers can get the info they want!

None the less i never agreed on anyone beeing able to background check me on this forum. I don't give a rats *** what you people decide. I never agreed to it and neither did anyone else. I can agree you can search a IP and get data from scammers. Shure thing i am all for it ( but give it to everyone ). Not just a select few (who wants to spend 60$) that can ip search someone.

I don't believe you tought this true at all. Anyone with money can do this reverse search. And if i where a company that don't like these trading dudes i would abuse it as soon as i heard of it.

I did read the whole topic. Your post was saying anyone could search and asking if you had to pay to be removed from the search. Both wrong statements I corrected for you, however you are correct in the sense anyone can pay to become a premium pro seller to use the feature. It starts at $60, but it may cost more.

Your second area of concern brings about a sense of anger that you're both not a premium pro seller and want this feature but refuse to pay for it, as you're basically you're all for this idea if everyone could have the feature. This was my personal area of concern, that it would be available ONLY to Premium Pro Sellers and not everyone.

As for you not agreeing, you can read our forum rules, specifically this:

• We reserve the right to modify and amend these terms at any time without notice.

Obviously a new feature was added, however you were informed. The one right after that states:

• It is your responsibility to remain informed of current policies.

You are exercising that responsibility, good for you.

All these features are thought through before implementation, however you're free to think what you'd like.

This is a tool that would not be useful to the majority of members because they have no way of knowing someone's IP address aside from a Skype resolver. This is why it's being restricted to Pro Sellers only, many who run their own website where they record customers IP address, making a reverse IP search useful to them.

This is also a business and being such I wanted to provide the Pro Seller usergroup with an added benefit. A reverse IP search is a powerful tool so those members interested in using it simply have to upgrade.

Verified and Pro Sellers are already excluded from the search, however due to your concerns I have decided to exclude those that have upgraded to the 'Epic Member' usergroup as well. Now only closed, banned and unverified members will display in the search result.
