It has recently come to our attention that there is no real set rule about posting referral threads. Meaning you sign up to a sites affiliate program then post threads with a referral URL to make sales through the site.
After a brief discussion in the mod forum, we have decided to allow referral links, but only in signatures. Users cannot make dedicated threads to advertise their referral links. This leads to multiple users being affiliates of the same site and spamming the boards with affiliate links.
This new rule has been added to the "Spam" section of the forum rules and referral threads will be considered spam and receive infractions as such. For the time being we will not give out infractions for this, only warnings, but after a month or so, people will start to receive infractions.
If you have such a thread and you are unable to close it yourself, PM me or a mod and we'll close it for you.
I am aware that some sites use referral URLs in their posts here to keep track of where their sales are coming from and I would not want to affect those sellers. So exceptions will be made for people on a case by case basis. If you own a site and want to keep track of employees who post here or use the URL in your own posts, please PM me and I will add a note to your account.
Otherwise, please keep the referral URLs in your sigs.
