Quick Sidebar Major Update

A major update has been made to the under-used quick sidebar today. We hope this update will make it much easier for members to browser around the site for both desktop and mobile.

Desktop

• The sidebar will no longer overlap the site. This will allow member to pin it open without covering any part of the website.
• The sidebar will also remain pinned to the top of the browser so it will always be in view.

New Features

• Thread alert integration - We have moved thread alerts from the bell icon area to the sidebar.
  • Only active threads will appear. Activity is based on 10 days.
    • This includes a new thread, bump or new reply.
  • My Active Threads = threads you have created.
  • Other Active Threads = threads you did not created, but are either watching or replied to it.
• 'Mark as read' button has been added.
• New "Recently Visited' tab will display the last 25 categories a member has visited.
  • You do not need to add a category to your watch list. It will automatically appear once you visit a category.
  • When a new thread is posted, a "NEW" indicator will appear to let you know there's new threads.

The new quick sidebar does not affect notifications (email, app or push). To receive those you still have to add a thread or category to your corresponding Watch List.

UPDATE June 6: An update was made today fixing all known issues. Some previously read posts might appear unread again, however going forward the correct alerts should now appear for everyone.

The similar threads and the forums seems to have the same issue, atleast on mozilla, fluid width enabled (disabled does the same thing, already tried)

Love it Mike. On phone right now and so far I like the side bar so far. Ill check it later on how is it on desktop.

Yep, from pc also , my bell icon shows notification button , when i click nothing happens, and on this new sidebar thingy i cant click on anything and no notification is showed when i open it..

Hmm, we're investigating why your list is empty.

Thread and forum alerts were removed from the bell icon, so those will no longer appear there. They will appear in the sidebar. Other alerts will still appear like someone following you, Trade Guardian alerts, and mentions.

UPDATE: Temporarily disabled while we workout some of the thread issues.

It was disabled last night. There were some issues that did not occur during tests, so once those are fixed, it will be re-enabled. It should be back sometime on Monday.

Is there any way to view threads you recently interacted with or posted? I used that feature all the time to quickly bump my threads. Is it still available and I'm just not seeing it? Specifically the one that sorts threads by last bump or reply

Yeah, this is incredibly annoying to say the least. Have not been able to bump threads properly since it has been disabled. Goes from taking a minute to taking at least 5-10.

I agree with nakedbear98. At this point it would be better to return original sidebar (which worked perfectly) while you work at changes calmly and without rush.
We need this sidebar to operate normaly with our threads.

I see you brought back the sidebar, but "my active threads" is empty, while I actualy have 14 active threads. Using mobile Chrome browser.

Reactions won't appear in the sidebar as a new notification. Reactions, mentions, and other alerts will still appear in the bell icon.

The sidebar will only show an alert if one of your threads or a thread you're watching has a new reply.

Why would the bell icon still show new activity if the activity itself isn’t visible in the notification center? Right now it just shows 2 notifications for every response on this thread, on both the bell icon & the sidebar, but I gotta open up the sidebar & scroll all the way down to this thread, which doesn’t at all indicate that the notification is for this thread aside from the fact that it’s bold. Seems illogical & definitely not better than the way things were previously, at least from a mobile user’s perspective.

This issue still persist. Whenever I try to log in I still see likes that I marked unread.

The bell should not show thread notifications. I think something was undone when we made a fix for the other issue. We'll have to corrected shortly.

thats inconvenient

so the only way now to get thread and forum sections notifications is to subscribe with instant email notifications?

what about subscription to sticky thread alerts ie if in the section its on discount, etc?

The sidebar only affects the on-site alerts, not email, app or push notifications. Those work the same as before and are managed on your Watch Lists.

The only difference is the on-site alerts have been moved from the bell icon to the sidebar.

Yes there seems to be a bug with how the red number appears. When there is new thread activity which should go in the new icon, it increases the number both for the bell icon and the new icon, but it should only increase it for the new icon.

i think bell icon should be for notifications such as replies, feedback , credit purchases, and sidebar just as quick menu for last visited threads

right now is very confusing what for is bell icon and what for is sidebar.

The sidebar was re-enabled a few days ago, but there are still issues with alerts we are working on.

New bug : whenever site is refreshed , sidebar opens automatically on the right side.

Make sure you don't have the pin enabled. That will keep the sidebar open on every page load.

Trash change, useless for most of it. Just keep notifications on bell icon as it was for past 15 years and let us turn off sidebar. Everything was fine for 15 years then someone wanted to reinvent hot water by adding thing noone wanted or asked for. Maybe Bob Iger is running this forum now ... Now i am stuck with 3 warnings on sidebar , which i cant turn off cause i get error ...
