What was scammed?: €50 of mine through PayPal
Link of trade thread: http://vbforums.mmobay.net/showthread.php/380150-WTS-lvl-60-Scarab-Lord-High-Warlord-Hunter
Approximate value of scammed property: €50 Euros (plus added PayPal fees €2.30, €52.30 total)

Was a middleman used?: No.
Describe how you were scammed: We were chatting on AIM at the time I sent him the cash for the WoW account. He gave me his PayPal address, and told me to send him the cash through PayPal. As soon as I completed payment, things started to get fishy. Firstly, his PayPal name was "John Lennon" and it's an unverified account. Secondly, a minute after I sent the payment, in AIM he refers to me by my real life name ("Mr. xxxxx?" in the chat log) which is normal if he was checking his PayPal account. But then, he told me he can't login to his PayPal account, and he thinks he's been "hacked". At this point I knew something was up... If he couldn't access his PayPal account, how did he know my real name? I also received an automated email from PayPal saying he "accepted" the payment! I told him to reset his password, but surprise surprise, he told me he couldn't access his PayPal email either! He then told me to file a dispute with PayPal, and to tell them it was an unauthorized transaction that I didn't make, to get my money back. I promptly IGNORED this advice (I will NOT lie in a logged PayPal dispute), and instead filed a PayPal dispute with the truth about the situation. Chat logs are below, he is currently ignoring me and not replying to any of my messages on AIM.

Seems very fishy, considering he knew your real name, just contact pay-pal and discuss the sticky situation

Paypal probably gave him his real name. You know when you send money it says n such.

Unfortunately, the fact that you told the truth could be your downfall here. PayPal will not protect buyers against the purchase of an intangible good. Nonetheless, I will contact the user and he/she has 24 hours to respond.

On a final note, I even saw this offer and thought to myself it would be too good to be true. Maybe it was.
