Lately I've noticed that a lot of "new" people are coming here and bumping threads that are 3 months old, a year old, or hell like that one idiot who bumped a thread back in April 2008. This has started to annoy the hell out of me and I'm sure other people as well. IMO, infractions should be given out for necro'ing threads, here's a chart of what I think.

****************************************************

Under a year(date of which the OP posted the thread), if it's the users first offense for necro'ing and user has received no prior warning by a mod OR another forum user, then just a warning.

Over a year(date of which the OP posted the thread), if it's the users first offense for necro'ing and user has received no prior warning by a mod OR another forum user, then just a minor infraction.

****************************************************

Under a year (date of which the OP posted the thread), user has received a previous warning NOT to necro threads (whether it be a PM/IM or post on the thread he necro'd from another user or mod) then he receives 1 "normal//severe" (forgot what you guys call it) infraction.

Over a year (date of which the OP posted the thread), user has received a previous warning NOT to necro threads (whether it be a PM/IM or post on the thread he necro'd from another user or mod) then he receives 2 "normal//severe" (forgot what you guys call it) infraction.

****************************************************

If the user has been warned and received his first offense and continues to do it, then it will result in a 3 day ban.

****************************************************

If the user has been warned, received his first offense, has received a 3 day ban then it's a permanent ban.

****************************************************

Something needs to be implemented whether it be my suggestion or not, it is just getting out of control. In my honest opinion, anyone who posts in a 2 year old+ thread should be instantly banned for being an idiot.

I know there are some other people who can vouch saying that the necro'ing has gotten out of hand recently.

Here is the thread with the idiot that posted. I mean the thread was created back in April 2008 and the original poster has a -1 feedback....

Another thing you could do is when an account is fully registered, e-mail the user "directions" on proper forum posting, reading, and some of the basic rules...

Most necro's are by mistake, even I have accidentally necro'ed threads before. Punishing people for stupid errors isn't right. If it were on purpose, such as for post farming or something more stupid then they would be punished at the mod's discretion. Chances are you won't even see those posts as they've been taken care of by a mod.

What we really need is a warning mod, or an thread locking mod.

People post farm by necro'ing old threads. I've seen dozens of them.

And who manages to necro 4-5 threads, I'm sorry but I don't buy it.

After looking around for like 2 minutes I found it finally. Rather small button but regardless, incoming 100 reported posts a day.

Is it considered spam though?

Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

And where do the reported posts get sent too?

Ignore that note for the most part. If it breaks or bends the forum rules in any shape it's a good idea to report it.

Reported posts are instantly emailed to all moderators (or moderators of the specified forum).

Added a mod that will "close" threads after 90 days. They aren't actually closed because that would require a process to run every day to check every thread to see if it was 90 days. That would create a huge server load when the process was run, so Id rather not do that. This mod will make the threads appear as though they are closed, so hopefully that will stop some of this posting in old threads.
