So, some foreign guy tries to buy my WoW account, I tell him my PayPal email, and before we finalize anything he sends me $500.00. I get a little weirded out, tell the guy no thanks, and he disputes it. So, I figured he took it back, blah blah blah.

I was wrong, this dumbass closed the dispute, and the cash ends up in my hands. I keep going along, buying and selling, and today PayPal takes 500 dollars out of my PayPal balance (leaving it $470 dollars in debt) and puts it on hold. I called the guy, and hes some old(er) guy from Manchester, TN, and somebody stole his PayPal. I'm one of the last guys to lose my cool on the forums, but this really [censored] lame that some guy takes a PayPal, and then puts other people in debt with this guys money.

Is there anything I can do? Whats going to be the end result of all this crap?

That doesnt even make sence. Even if he took back the money, that doesnt mean you negative any, your simply just where you were previous to having the money. It shoudnt have a counter affect of -500 dollars unless your balance was at zero, and either way you can just pay it in. you haven't lost money...

The thing is, I assumed he disputed and took it back; he closed the dispute and it got added to my previous cash. So, when I went to buy stuff I bought 500 dollars of stuff I couldn't afford.

I had 30 bucks left in my PayPal balance (not my bank) and I woke up with it being -470.

Lesson here:

Don't spend money if you don't know where it came from. Especially with paypal, they keep track of everything.

If I were you I'd pay them back unless you want it to go to a creditor and not be able to sign up for a legit paypal account for a while.

Should have been cautious of that from the beginning. I would have refunded it even if the claim was closed.

Don't spend money you know isn't yours.

Re: Idiot foreign theives have my PayPal in debt $470.00. Any suggestions

No, theres still an open claim from an unauthorized payment. I believe the guy whom the PayPal was stolen is going to just drop the claim and forget about it. He told me he was calling today.

Hes a nice guy, and friendliness goes a long way. I'll still repay him what he wants, but I can't use my PayPal and he knows thats frustrating.

Good to see it turned out cool. Bit of an odd scenario to be honest. I would of been very cautious about spending money I knew was suspect, but sometimes things just seem to good to be true, 500 dollars out of nowhere. Sounds like you're dealing with a nice guy, good luck to you both.

You just gotta learn whose a fraudster and who isn't. Someone who doesn't want to talk on the phone, has broken english, and wants to send you the money extremely fast is most likely a fraudster.

Agree. Unless the potential trader/buyer/seller speaks in clear and consistent english with a laid back approach then be careful. Anyone putting any form of immediate pressure on you is potentially a scammer.

Wow, that was one of the most racist posts I have read. I'm not from a english speaking country. So if I want to trade/buy or sell something on MD people need to be supsicious of me because I might have an accent on the phone/vent? I can garantee you that there are more scammers in the US than you imagine. Of course many scammers come from one crountry, but putting anyone outside the US/UK in the same basket is very racists imo.

Re: Idiot foreign theives have my PayPal in debt $470.00. Any suggestions

I think you need to look up the term racist buddy. My comments there are in no way shape or form racist and I take offense to the fact you were implying that. Of the amount of trades and business I have done it is always the people who display poor english skills that try to pull a fast one and/or scam. I didn't even state they have to be foreigners did I? I've seen plenty of english/american posters fail at english. Anyone who is genuinely bad at grammar is to be watched out for in my experience. But thats just me.

Re: Idiot foreign theives have my PayPal in debt $470.00. Any suggestions

Then you should state the fact that it's not the quality of their english that make people scammers, but how they use it. If someone has bad english but is willing to do all safety checks on a trade, it doesn't make them a scammer. Yet, I have talked to people using proper english trying to bypass in-game meetings, thread posting etc. So I think you used the wrong argument to spot a scammer. It's not proper english that must be paid atention to, it's how it is used. And I apologize for calling you a racist, just don't agree with generalizations.

Re: Idiot foreign theives have my PayPal in debt $470.00. Any suggestions

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding but did you end up spending the 500 dollars and then in turn boggle when you had to refund it? From your wording I take it that you never ended up parting with the account you were selling, at least not to him.
