What is an Asian scam? An Asian scam is when a person with bad English offers a substantial amount of money for your account, you get the money sucesfully and you think the trade has gone right but a couple days later they file a claim with PayPal saying it was an unauthorized money transfer and will eventually get the money back from you. (I'm not being racist as they are all Asian, I have IP traced.)
You mention that they file a claim through PayPal, what if they do it through another e-commerce business? They wont, usually you can spot them out when they ask if you are PayPal verified or if they ask to pay through PayPal, but we will discuss this further in the methods of detection section.
Ok so how do I stop these communists from stealing my account and money? Ok we'll start with some basic methods.
1. Keep the potential scammer talking, if you notice that they are slow or can't speak proper English then this is the first signs that they are a scammer. Also if they call you guy or sir I think you've found yourself a scammer.
2. If they ask you what account you are selling straight up off the bat then it's almost guaranteed that they are trying to scam you. Anyone actually interested in your account will say something along the lines of 'Hi, are you still selling that 70 Mage?' (Beware some Asian scammers won't ask what account you are selling so don't make your final decision from this.)
3. Are they asking you to rush into selling your account to them? Say you have an offer for $350 and you tell them that, they will probably bump it up to $400 and ask for a deal.
4. They usually ask if you are OO and have all the info on the account. Don't ask me why they do this because all they ask for is the Username/Password, an email change and the secret question answer.
5. Are they asking you if you are PayPal verified, are they telling you that they are PayPal verified? This can also be legit, however a scammer will always use PayPal for this reason. PayPal always side with buyers, literally always, it doesn't matter how much incriminating evidence you have against the buyer, they will always win. With other services I don't think there is any way the buyer can get their money back without sufficient evidence.
6. I find the make or break for these scammers is when you ask them to post on your thread. This will end up two ways, A) They will ask you to wait a minute. This means to wait like 5-6 mins and that they are going to ask their supervisor how to create an account or if he has any accounts. They will eventually post on your thread with an account with either 1 post or an account with 10 that has neutral rep.
B) They won't be capable of creating or finding an account on MD and will either not respond to your chat or request that you don't insist for them to post on your thread.
Ok so that's the basics and you can adapt this however you want. I find this to be the most common type of scammer, I get between 6-10 of these scammers daily enquiring about any of the accounts that I am selling. When you practice you can weed out these scammers fairly quickly. Beware though, there are smart scammers out there and they are rampant too.
Heres a chat log with one of the common ones I got this morning.
