Hello epicnpc I need some help. I tried asking for help on ownedcore forums but they were no help. How do I report a scammer who has stolen money from me? We used a westernunion service but more or less I thought he was reputable but latter then found out his account was hacked not of the same person. He said he lost his ID which requested me to put secret question. All I have is his email address, the area he picked up the money (Florida), and his name, but probably a fake name.

I cannot express how much of an idiot of am, I'm so embarrassed. Is there any way I can report him to any US local authorities?

Did you buy a account? I don't really know how mutch about how mutch the police in US takes care of such situations since i don't live there but here in Sweden when i got scammed by a guy who sold me a Scarab lord account, i went to the police and they tracked the person and later it got to court. The police made a impressively good job and i recived back everything + abit more.

As far as i know sending with Western Union and it turns out you got scammed then it's bye bye with the money, you can't recall them the same way as with Paypal. I suggest you to read this very great detailed guide how to prevent most scams http://www.epicnpc.com/safe-buying-selling-trading/376990-%3D*preventing-most-common-scam-methods*%3D.html Also it's written about Western Union there.

I would contact the persons local police department, provide them with the name you sent the WU payment to and where the money was picked up. You should be able to get your money back that way.

I bought currency first and was thinking of buying account next Thankfully I did one thing at a time. Raven did court took place as a result of paypal aiding you in the situation or western union scenario? EpicNPC I provided police the email and the first & last name, but I'm somewhat worried considering he picked up the money with no proof of ID. I'm just wondering if they can track this person down. I have no idea if they will be any aid to me since no actual concrete personal info was given to me by that scammer.

No neither Western Union or Paypal, I went direcly to the bank and sent from there. I can hardly belive that he would be able to take out the money from WU without providing a legit id of himself. If he somehow took help of a friend who took the money out it would be harder to get this guy caught.

if the person doesnt have an ID to confirm his identity, WU offers a "secret question/answer" type of verification. not sure how exactly it all works since i've always had my ID with me for WU transactions, but if it works as the OP is claiming, the guy didnt need an ID at all. just needed the name, MTCN & sqa

Unfortunately this happened to me too with some Guild Wars 2 cD keys I bought that later turned out to be purchased with a stolen credit card.

I printed out a good size book worth of documents to take to the police, including all my WU receipts.
They wouldn't/couldn't do anything and they said since I purchased stolen property that I didnt know was stolen I would have to talk to the actualy company who made the codes. I tried contacting NCSOFT with all the information I had on the scammer and they didn't even flinch...

Especially if you're dealing with someone overseas you are really screwed. If he is within the USA, you can try to file a report.
Just try to talk to your local police and see what they say.
