How did EpicNPC start?

Not Recently Bumped
So far as I am aware on a few things. EpicNPC started out as the formerly known website MMObay back in 2007 and changed names in 2010 and expanded during their time also on additional sub-forums. The majority of people would mostly sell World of Warcraft Gold and Accounts on there. And back in fall 2018, if I remember correct the website received the graphical update that we are currently seeing and using as of this moment.

But that goes as far as the information that I know about the past. I only vividly remember a few things really so there is a chance I might have gotten a few things wrong. So I think it’s the best if owner and admin himself answers the question.

Bunch of my buddies are arguing on how it started. anywhere were the owner speaks about how he started this site?
I think i saw somewhere that @EpicNPC bought this site actually from a previous owner

The site has two histories. One with me and one with the original owner. I'll start with our history first.

Originally the site was called MMObay (.net). This domain is owned by someone else now. It was an auction site similar to Ebay and was opened in 2008 shortly after Ebay announced it was banning the sale of virtual items. In 2010 MarkeeDragon was purchased, which was a forum marketplace similar to what it is today. However we did not purchase the domain, only the user and database.

A forum was opened on MMObay for the MarkeeDragon users and the site operated with an auction site and forum until 2012 when Epicnpc.com was opened. We moved the forum to Epicnpc to separate the two systems. Epicnpc was growing at a faster rate then MMObay, so in 2013 we closed MMObay. In 2014 we let the MMOBay domain expire and it was purchased by someone else.

MarkeeDragon started in 2002, although their forum marketplace didn't start until 2003 when members starting posting Ultima Online items for sale and it remained this way for most of 2003 and 2004. By 2005 they embraced the marketplace idea and added categories for a dozen different MMORPGs turning the site from a gaming site to a gaming marketplace. It stayed that way until we purchased the forums in 2010 and that completes the full history of the site :)

I had this question for a long time and was uncertain about the exact history. I knew that it originated from MMObay, but that's about it.
Thank you for the question EloHaven and thank you EpicNPC for taking the time to answer.

It’s amazing to see how far this website has come, I myself would of never imagined it to grow this fast. I remember the first time I visited this site was because I needed a clash of clans accounts. There’s so many forums now offering loads of different types of items for sale. Keep up the great work guys, I’m excited to see where the next couple of years takes us.

And what was the idea of naming the site EpicNPC? I mean... what’s so Epic about being an NPC? 🤣You know... That word actually have negatives connotation if used as a slang nowadays. It’s pretty much a synonym of being a Sheeple IRL 🤷🏽‍♂️

When the site first launched it was mainly for MMORPG games. Back then most games didn't have auction houses where players could sell to each other, you had to do it manually via chat or out of game via a message board. The vendors and stores in-game were generally controlled by NPCs so the idea was we were like a store, but not controlled by a normal NPC, we were an "Epic NPC" ;)
