alrighty. first things first.

assumption: you have asked the user for his first name, last name, address and registered landline. placed a call to his landline to verify it is indeed his place or residence and matched the address to the landline. use the white or yellow pages for this.

oh and match it to the TW Loc you see under his username. e.g. yours is TW Loc: Brooklyn, New York, United States while this is not always accurate, it should at least match the state smile

1) create a money request and send it to the paypal you want to receive money from (do not under any circumstances just go "kk, here is my paypal, please send me XXX" - you will get scammed for "item not received".

2) under the details of the money receipt, place in the title and description "digital delivery of an intangible world of warcraft item - by accepting, buyer waives paypal buyer protection policy"

3) get the buyer to now send you an email from his verified (if its a normal account, do NOT deal with him and refund the money) stating

"i (insert name) of (insert address / phone number) hereby authorize the payment tendered of value (insert) to (your paypal) on (insert date) for digital delivery of an intangible world of warcraft item - by accepting, i waives the paypal buyer protection policy" attached is my IP address (tell him to copy and paste it from here http://whatismyipaddress.com/).

digitally signed (insert buyer name)

4) after you have verified the email address get him to tender you the money via the money receipt.

if the name or address or landline in the paypal money details does NOT match the ones he gave you, refund the money and request a western union if he wants to deal. do NOT accept echecks.

5) once you have the money, instantly move it to your bank account (it will be put on hold for 2-3 days) - even if he was to recall it, paypal would just put your account into negative and you hold the money smile

6) deliver the washed gold in game / account information or whatever (method at your discretion)

good luck! feel free to aim me if needed!

using this method, you will hopefully avoid both "unauthorized access" and "item not received" paypal scams.

also consider kats sellers guide to not being scammed for large sums!

ciao!

Quick comments.

First, verification very important, great start.

1.) I would go either way. It doesn't matter the method which is sent because remember we deal with non-existant policies.

2.) Winner. There we go. Getting the trade partner it was for a virtual transaction puts you into the winning position during a dispute. This only works if you are a reputable merchant.

3.) Expanding further on step number two. It's not needed, but further enforcement. You JUST NEED to get the trade partner to admit those few little words "Virtual Item"

4.) I agree with. Only accept from original owners as non-owners can open disputes as unauthorized.

5.) If you are confident in your verification ability and methods this won't be needed. Yes it's a safety net, but if you scam Paypal, it comes back to you. Technically you didn't scam anyone, but you aren't the judge of your own fate if a legally registered business entity is using it's legal options to force you to pay. Collections will come after you if the decision is not favorable. Prevention is best.

I give you props for mentioning step number two. This is a make or break step many merchants don't take advantage of and one I've been working with for about a year and a half now.

Until you start getting collection notices from a Junk Debt Buyer that purchased the debt from PayPal. I have in the past used "incorrect information" in the PayPal that received the funds, forwarded the funds to my "legit account" and closed the "fake account" and that works.

The only reason I say this is because I have PayPal Buyer Credit, I would get screwed either way.

what he said

You can't have your buyer waive the buyer paypal protection unforunately, as paypal's terms come before your own.

you can if they declare its an intangible good AND you can prove it was not an "unauthorized transfer"

method has been used to keep so many safe for so long

So is this method ultimately safe for the seller?
If for example I sell someone my account and the next day after they've x-ferred my character off the account, they decide to Dispute the payment with Paypal, will I have a chance? or will I have to deal with Blizzard to get my character back?

It doesn't really seem safe since they can transfer your characters off your account quicker than it takes Paypal to withdraw your money

Anyone have any tips!?

its not 100% safe per say, (use western union for that). but it is a balance between safety and convenience.

unfortunately i am not familiar with moneypak.
if you want to be 100% safe i recommend you use western union. i know they have many outlets there in the philippines.

Alright so I read the guides up on the forums and I seem to be learning a lot more about how not to get scammed, but I'd still like a surefire process as to how to go about my very first sale.

I put up my auction of my account up on mmobay.net (Is this a good site in terms of reliability etc.?, I figured it was from what I read around, so I decided to give it a try.)

So I got a reply from a potential buyer, he/she seems interested in making a purchase of my account, which I put up for a 150USD bid and 300 Buy Out. The potential buyer is interested in doing a buy out, in which I decided that I want to do this over pay-pal.

Now seeing as how this is my first process of selling an account, I am unsure what to EXACTLY do. I read a post here where it said I should print out invoices etc., then send them all, photo ID and whatnot, but it all just seems completely confusing to me. Once I hear it correctly, and directly once, I'll understand how this process is done.

If anyone could basically spoon-feed me step-by-step as to what I am supposed to do, I'd really appreciate it.
