We've been getting some complaints about fake discounts being offered by sellers, so a new rule has been added to the "Thread Sale Guidelines".
https://www.epicnpc.com/infocenter/forumrules.html

  • Discounts & Sales: If you are providing some sort of discount or sale (example: 50% off) you have to prove the discount is real. Normal prices must be included in your thread.
    • If the discounts are permanent, then they are not real discounts, they are the normal price and can't be claimed as a "Sale" or "Discounted" price. This would be considered a fake discount and not allowed.
      • Example: "50% off everything" If the discount is never removed, then it's not a discount it's the normal price.
      • If you add "50% off everything until June 30, 2020" Then that would be okay because the sale would end. The normal price would then be used.
    • Permanent discounts for bulk orders is allowed.
      • Example. Buy 1 item for $1. Buy 10 items for $8 (20% off). This is a permanent discount for bulk orders and would be allowed.

If you have any questions, please ask below.

Please update your threads if you are breaking these rules. Warnings will be issued if they are not updated.

Mike, would clearance or liquidation products be restricted by the time limit even if the original price is posted?

Also any limits on how long a sale can be posted for?

There's no defined limits. A sale or liquidation should not run forever and we're allowing moderators to make that decision on their own. If the seller disagrees they can always contact an admin or open a support ticket. A few weeks is okay, maybe even a month or two, but it shouldn't be longer than that.

Trusted can only be used by members with the "Trusted" badge.

"Best" can't be used, this is related to this rule

No unsupported superlative or competitive claims. This includes claims like "best, "cheapest", "fastest", "number #1" or any other claim that can't be proven. This is related to seller claims, not the game. For example "hunter class is the best DPS" is not against the rules.

Warning can be given to both and those types of threads can be edited. I've edited both and issued warnings.

Is this rule really necessary? I read the thread in Wattering Hole and it seems that this is result of some drama. Also its not very specific. Is this just epic forum-wide? How long can a discount last? For how long has the price be back to normal before next sale?
This rule should be way more simpler, like no sale/discount in thread titles. I dont see a practical way you can enforce this vague rule in the current form.

I think the rule is fine as is, will give Mod's the tools needed to stop loop holes and abuse.

And it will give some mods the room to abuse it. Whos going to decide whos sales take too long? You cant have vague rules here, where people enforcing the rules are also in a conflict of interest.

If mods attempt to abuse their power with any rules it can be brought up to supermods or admins. We do not tolerate mods abusing their power. This is primarily to target people that are creating clickbait titles & false advertising in their threads. As stated in this thread people need to update their discounts with an end time. As it is now a lot of sellers are abusing the idea of “discounts” when in fact they are not actually offering a discount.

Yes, it's forum wide.

It should be common sense for how long a sale should last. For most it's days, weeks or a month or two. We don't want sellers putting permanent discounts in their threads that stay for months or years, that's not a real discount. This is what we want to stop.

If we see any problems, then I'll add an exact time to the rules, but for now we'll let mods make that decision. I would say 2 months is fine, but a discount lasting longer than that could be an issue.
