Chat Updates - Part 2

Part 2 of the chat update is now live and includes the following changes.

• Emojis button will be added to the reply box so members can reply with emojis.
• Chat sidebar integration
  • The old mail icon from the toolbar has been removed and is being used as the new sidebar icon.
  • Chats will now display in the sidebar. New alerts will only appear after a page reload, they will not immediately appear.
• Normal and starred chats lists has been combined.
  • A new Starred tab as been added so you can quickly find all of your starred chats.
• A 3rd notification counter has been added to the sidebar.
  • Chat - red
  • Active threads - orange
  • Recently Visited - gray

Bug fix: Alerts were not being cleared when a member sent a chat message, but was then banned. In these cased we remove the chat when a new member is banned, but the alert remained and there was no way mark it as read. This has been fixed.

Curious, but what’s the point in this change? I don’t really see how this is an improvement from the old system. Are there any plans in the future that this is a part of?

We wanted all activity to appear in one location instead of multiple. The sidebar now acts as the main activity hub where members can quickly and easily find everything they've interacted with.

We do hope to make the sidebar more interactive in the future so members will be able to open chats and reply from any page while they browse the site.

how to search for old conversations without scrolling tons of chat down?

previously there was box to enter name of user and find chat with him

now i have to use cntrl+F or i miss something

Search box is still there, just not in the sidebar version of the chat.

this is so stupid. before was much easier to find chat , and to read notifications, now is so unconvienent to do anything.
Before i had to make 2 clicks to find thread like this one, now is taking me more time than to type any comment.

At maximum, if you have a new chat in a different tab (not inbox) you'll have to make 1 extra click. However 98% of chat messages are inbox chats, so 98% of the time it's exactly the same amount of clicks as before.

In terms of opening a previous chat, the sidebar has a large speed improvement compared to the old version. Previously you had to click the mail icon, click a message to open the full chat, then find the chat you wanted. Now you don't have to do most of that, instead you can just find that chat you want from any page with 1 click.

Old: 2 clicks + page load, find the chat.
New: 1 click, find the chat.
-- If the sidebar is pinned opened (desktop) then you don't even have to click.

On one hand 2% of time time it does take 1 extra click. On the other hand finding a chat with a member is much faster and can be done from any page.

We plan to add a user search field to the chat sidebar in the near future as that is missing.

Math is maybe good ,but user exp is bad. Instead making chat better, faster, now is just placed in totally weird place.

Mail icon doesnt link to mail, links to sidebar.
Bell icon doesnt show notifications, shows some warnings for threads.

Just my personal opinion , maybe some people like it, but i find it confusing and inconvienent. When compared to previous design.
