We made more updates to the chat to improve the mobile experience and a few other things.

- Dynamic font size for mobile. Smaller font so more can appear on the screen.
- Mobile user list popup box. Instead of scrolling to the top to access this list, you can click a button to view it, then hide it again to quickly switch chats
- "Back to the Top" of the page button added so users can quickly scroll to the top via mobile.
- Email notification update to prevent email spam each time you get a new message. New Chat settings page to control email notifications (https://www.epicnpc.com/account/chat)
- Last reply indicator has been added to the user list so you can quickly see if you were the last reply.
- Chats can be marked as 'unread' in case you want to read the chat, but are not ready to reply

We made some updates to the chat today, mostly style updates and the canned reply buttons are back.

- The dot no longer indicates a new message. Instead the dot indicates whether or not a user is online.
- A new bar on the right side indicates new messages.

We're still working on a bunch of changes to the chat so you'll be seeing more updates next week.

Maybe move the green dot right next to the username?
 
@EpicNPC I assume this is not intended, but I think I have a bug IDK when it started though if it was this update or last but noticed it today. If I reply to a group conversation (for instance the one we have going for middlemen) Everytime I respond it boots me from conversation I am in and back to the main chat screen.
 
I noticed that when I click on the edit button for any forum post, it takes me to a new page for editing, instead of letting me edit it right away like before. Unrelated to the chat but I think it started after this chat update.
 
Could you add some indication whether the last reply to the message was from you or from the other party? Currently there's no way to know whether you replied without opening the conversation.

Before the chat update, the icon of the message would be the avatar of the person who replied last, but now the icon always shows the other person's avatar. This was a very useful feature, especially when you click on the chat button on the sidebar for a quick view of the previous messages.

This was caused by something else we're working in. It's been fixed.

Yes, we'll add an indicator so members can quickly see if they are the last reply or not.

I think a better solution would be to add an "unread" option. This way if you read a chat, but don't want to reply right away, you can set it back to unread for later.
 
Both should be added :)
 
Email spam still not fixed
 
As of earlier today (11 hours ago) I'm no longer receiving any emails on new messages.
 
Not receiving any emails aswell.
 
We made a minor change. If you're account is online, you won't get the emails anymore. If you're online, you should see the notifications in the top right so there's really no reason to also get an email.

That's a really bad change. Please revert or add an option to always receive them.
 
I'm not sure why anyone would want to get email alerts when you're already online.

For chat replies or for new chats?

You can be chatting with someone for 20-30 mins and you'll end up with 100 emails. Why would you want that?

I can leave my computer/laptop on,and go out,i will not recieve any emails on my phone,that is the thing.

Emails should arrive for all new messages and replies apart from the one that you already have open. Like how it was before the chat update.

My email client gives me much better notifications than the site, with a permanent icon in the taskbar.

Online status on the forum lingers for 15-20 min and it's not a good indication whether you're actually online.
 
Idle time is currently 15 mins, so you'll appear online for this long after you leave.

What about if we add a "Mark as Away" status option? User's can manually update their status to "Away" then during these 15 mins, you'll start to get email alerts for new messages.

That would work, as long as it only affects email notifications.

Will an option to add people(s) into a current chat be added in the future?
 
No, sorry 1-1 messages can't add other members because that would convert it to a group chat. You have to create a new group chat with all the members you want to include.
 
I see that an "Away" option is added but I always get an error when trying to activate it. Is this a bug or is it not yet fully implemented?
 
Message box still loses focus when I move the cursor into the area above with the messages or to the sidebar with the chat list.

I can't replicate. I can even click other tabs or change programs, when I go back to the Epicnpc tab in FF, the cursor remains in the message area and its still active.
 
Can't replicate either. But it keeps happening occasionally.
I'll let you know once I figure out what exactly causes it.
 
Ok it looks like it's caused after using some of the bb codes on highlighted text or if you use the quote option on any message.

- Type something in and highlight part or all of the text
- Click on insert->quote.

The message box will now lose focus every time you move the mouse out of it until you refresh the page. Happens only in firefox, works correctly in chrome.

Some bb codes cause it (text color, font, size, link, img etc.) while others don't (bold, italic, underline, strike...). I used quote as the example since that's the one that I probably use the most.
 
I still can't replicate. In FF, wven when highlighting text or adding bb code (quotes, color, img) it's not losing focus when I move the cursor out of the box. Everything still works as normal.

I'll ask the dev to check anyway.
 
It does but the bug is still there.

The main problem is if it loses focus and I press backspace, it loads the previous page and I lose what I typed.

Hello, so after the nice change, and the good update, i found out that there is a little option missing which is very important for me because, i acutally dont deal with unverified members, i ask for registred members to be "phone verified" before i ever deal, after the update i could not find where to check if the registred memeber has done the phone verification or not.
Before the update, i was able to see everything that i needed to know about the person iam dealin with.
But not now, so please i would like to know if there is any way to check if the registred has done the phone verification or not, if there is a way, please let me know
If not i would like to ask the staff for a litle update, because i guess it is necessary for some people to check about the phone verification.

@Deepoly, you can also check comments or thread posts to view this information under their avatar where a country is normally displayed.

Yes it would be nice if you could add an option to view the country of members with 0 posts.
 
Can you make the page title show the username of the person that you're chatting with when you open the message via direct link?
Currnetly it just says "Chat messages" regardless of who you're talking with and each creates a separate entry in browser history.

I'd be able to type in a username into the browser's address bar and access a chat with that person directly.
 
Adding it to the page title wouldn't do anything because when you switch chats it doesn't reload the page, so the same username would always appear once you load the chat.

If you want to type into the browser address bar to load a chat with a specific member, that would require us to restructure the URL so the username appears in the URL. I would prefer not the restructure the URL at this time.

We are planning on updating the quick side bar to work with the new chat. It used to display inbox messages, but that was removed when we switched to the chat. We'll update that so that it'll shows a list of the most recent chats so you can click which one you want and I'll load the chat to that user.

It doesn't refresh but the browser still treats it as a separate page, since the URL gets changed.

Open the main chat page: https://www.epicnpc.com/chat/
Click on 4-5 different chats one after another.
Look at your browser history and you'll see an entry for each, all called the same.

Simply update the title along with the url and it should work.

I'm still having this issues. Tested today on a new install of firefox with all default settings and it happens 100% of the time.

Here's a video of what happens:

Basically, if you move your cursor to the area where the chats are AFTER using a quote or a few other options from the toolbar, the text box will lose focus every time.
It also often happens when I move the cursor over one of the messages in the main pane, but I couldn't find a way to reliably replicate that one.

Can you try doing the exact same thing from the video in firefox?
