Basically...When you buy an account. It's pointless...

i hear all these people saying after you buy an account, try to transfer the toon to your own brand new account (considering you have the correct last name). Well, thats pretty much pointless now right? Because the OO can ALWAYS get his account back if he wants to. so why spend the extra 40$?

I think its because non original owners can't recall the account then. If the account has had 4 owners before you there are 4 people that can recall it, if you transfer theres only 1 person that can.

I've heard that the original owner / previous owners can call Blizzard and get the character Xfer reversed if they provide the right info and tell Blizzard it was unauthorized. Not sure though.

I believe XTrader is correct. That actually happened to me recently. I purchased an account and it seems the seller had a keylogger, so all of the info he gave was logged. With that info, the 3rd party was able to claim the account and transfer the toon to a different account. So yes, you can transfer the toon, but the oo or anyone with the correct info can recall the toon.

this happened to my first bought account.. the account was LOCKED/suspended indefinitly(SC).. something along the lines of multiple ip's on acount within a couple days of the transfer.. they look into it if the account was on markee and tested or whatever or was previously sold... but i tried to do it to a scammer.. who took my pally adn then xfered off.. They told me.. that is was a very rare case that you can get it back.. to this day.. i have nothing in return for it

I think a new measure needs to be taken to prevent this. From what ive heard blizzard requires photo ID and all that form stuff sent in etc to get a character taken back to the other account. Ofcourse a new measure wont be taken and im just dreaming, becuase why would blizzard make it easier for scams of this sort to happen?

Ultimately its completely true that if your not the OO of the account, at the end of the day, the account is not completely safe. There is no way to really assure that it will ever be safe, and ive thought hard about this one.

I mean, what would happen if it was xferd more than once to new accounts?

It doesn't matter how many the times the character was transfered off of one account to another...this is all logged by Blizzard and they can reverse it, sometimes, they make you wait until the character is actually transferable.

I had an account keylogged prior to Blizzard hiding the last name on an account, so the keylogger simply transfered the toon off the account to a new one. This was made possible by Blizzard, because they only require the the s/q and s/a from the account that is receiving the characters, and not from the original account. Now that they hide the last name, this doesn't happen as often, and sometimes they refuse to reverse the transfer for you, even if you can provide a state issued Photo I.D and fill out this form: http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/WoW/other/Account-Retrieval.pdf -- Typically, if you insist it was unauthorized, they will do a more extensive investigation, does the contact information match EXACTLY on the accounts from which the character was transfered from?...and this isn't possible...because even if the keylogger gains access to your account, they can't see the actual address or telephone numbers, only part of the telephone numbers and the city/state/zip. They will also often ask for a bank statement/credit card statement...because this includes a name and a current address...if this all matches the original accounts contact information and name...they will reverse it.
