It seems like the problem of TTR mods banning buyers/sellers from this site has become a more vocal problem, so I decided to provide some advice and guidelines on how to avoid bans, and what to do if you are banned. The moderators are very good at what they do, but you can avoid the hammer if you are smart.
SELLING ACCOUNTS
IF YOU ARE BANNED
The moderators won't unban sold accounts under any circumstances (emailing support is a huge waste of time). If you still want to play, you will have to start new accounts. If you are IP banned, you have a few practical options to get around it:
- Use a different connection if available. If you have logged onto banned accounts with multiple connections, there is a possibility all of those connections have been banned
- Tether a connection from a phone or any device with a dynamic IP address. This is what I personally do to bypass the IP ban
- Get your IP address changed for your current connection
- Replace your router or modem
VPNs don't work, doesn't matter what provider you try or what different settings you change. There was a time when I was able to get around it through obscure locations or certain protocols, but in recent years I've been unable to get any VPN to work undetected.
If you play again, you have to be very careful not to get your account(s) banned, but if you are, you will be safe. I have gotten accounts to max laff post-IP ban several times. The moderators are VERY good at pinpointing players they've IP banned, but if you don't give them a reason to investigate your account, you will likely never be banned. If you are, most likely you did something (even the smallest mistake) to get the moderator's attention. I've lost everything for reasons as simple as emailing support for an email change on an account I was selling (never do that, that is dumb; email changes in particular are highly suspect of account dealing), being reported for AFKing in a boss lobby, and even making a community post and somehow being traced from that. You cannot be careless, all of your accounts will be nuked guaranteed if you are found out.
- Never make the mistake of logging into your account on the TTR website with any connection that has been IP banned
- Don't use the same toon names or account passwords as previously banned accounts.
- Avoid posting in TTR online communities (main Discord server, Reddit), or use different identities. Do not share your toon information or screenshots publicly.
- Don't do anything to get reported in-game
- NEVER email TTR support for any reason
- If you continue selling toons after an IP ban, be prepared that things may possibly still go wrong even if you take precautions. That being said, I have sold many accounts safely in the many years following my IP ban.
- Account boosting is still safe
If you reach a point where your new accounts are banned within hours after creating them, then this means you have been MAC and/or HWID (hardware ID) banned. How I've learned to get around this:
- Spoof your MAC address. There are many ways to do this, personally I use Technitum
- Follow the steps in this guide to bypass the HWID ban if you are not already knowledgeable on how to do so. This guide works for TTR. https://slothytech.com/how-to-bypass-hwid-ban-in-any-game/
- Alternatively, simply play on a different PC, and never play on the original hardware again. But this isn't as practical
SELLING ACCOUNTS
- I am not sure if this actually matters, but to be safe, use a VPN when posting account selling threads.
- If possible, avoiding posting threads entirely and deal in private messages. But if you have accounts you want to advertise, it can't be helped
- Do not post specific information about the toons you are selling. Keep it general, like toon species and general laff range only. You can give more specific information to potential buyers in private conversations.
- Turn off Toonguard, and preferably, always leave it off. This may or may not help in account investigation, and there are no real reasons to keep it on if you're involved in something as risky as account dealing anyway.
- If you are selling multiple accounts, try not to sell them all at the same time. Space them out at least a couple of days between each account.
- May or may not matter, but avoid using any name-change requests for a few weeks after initially purchasing an account, since this involves game staff.
- DO NOT tell anyone other than trusted individuals that you have purchased an account, and do not tell them in-game. DO NOT mention anything about account dealing in-game under any circumstances.
