First off I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong forum area. I tried to search through the HS forum for any posts like this and I didn't find one.
Where are the resources for people like me who are coming to this community for the first time and trying to wrap our minds around what a Hearthstone account is truly worth?
I really feel like a lot of buyers on here are looking for ridiculous bargains, and many sellers either don't post a price or don't know how to properly justify the price of the account they're selling.
I'd love for this thread to be an open discussion on how people assign value to HS accounts.
All I have is my one HS account right now, that I've been playing almost daily since Dec 2013. I think I've spent just under $200 on it to pay for arenas when I was too impatient to wait to earn daily quest gold. I can really only compare my account, knowing how much time and effort it took me to build this account, to other accounts I see listed on here. Right now I'm trying to figure out the best metric for valuing an account. I think the most important metric is unique legendaries, but I there might be a few other metrics that are just as important. Personally I don't put much value on the cardbacks, as I feel an account with a majority of the cards far outweighs having a now unobtainable cardback.
Here is what I'm feeling toward legendaries at this moment.
Going off the belief that the odds of opening a legendary are 1 in 20 packs, and taking my rough estimate that an arena ( the only way I pay for packs ) takes approximately 60 mins, that's about 20 hrs of gameplay to earn 1 legendary card.
My account has around 54 unique legendaries on it right now. I play an average of 2 arenas a day ( 2 hrs of HS every day ), so that means I earn a legendary card every 10 days or so, which seems about right. It has taken me 1 year 9 months and ~$200 USD to obtain 54 unique legendaries, as well as mostly every other card in the game.
A brand new account, if they were extremely lucky and never opened a duplicate legendary, and always played arena well enough to never need to pay for an arena or wait for daily quests, would have to play a MINIMUM of a year and a half to have what I have on my account if they were able to play 2 arenas per day. ( NOTE: I never dust unique cards to craft others, I only dust duplicates, which seems like the best route to go if you're trying to completely fill out your account with every day. )
Realistically it would probably take someone who didn't want to pay any real money 2 to 2 1/2 years @ 2 arenas per day to accumulate the same amount of cards. I guess it is up to each individual what price they put on their time, and what benefit they would receive by buying an account with 10, 20, 50 or 100 legendaries already on it.
I'm still struggling with what a legendary is worth. I'll probably have a better answer for you once I watch more of the account transactions happen here on epicnpc. Thank you for time reading this, and any input you may have to help me figure this stuff out.
