Monsters & Memories Leveling Guide 1-60: Best XP Spots, Grouping, Rested XP, and Efficient Leveling

Monsters & Memories is built around the old-school MMO leveling experience, so reaching level 60 is less about following a linear quest chain and more about choosing efficient hunting grounds, building good groups, learning your class, and knowing when to move into more difficult areas. The game encourages exploration, dungeon runs, open-world camps, equipment upgrades, and group play throughout the journey to level 60.
There is no single mandatory leveling route. Different races begin in different areas, classes have very different strengths, and the best leveling location can change depending on whether you are playing solo, with a duo, or with a full group. The level ranges below should therefore be treated as general hunting brackets rather than strict requirements. Always consider the strength of the enemies around you and judge your actual kill speed, recovery time, and safety before moving to a harder camp.

Monsters & Memories Leveling Basics

Your primary source of experience is killing enemies. Quests, exploration, dungeons, equipment progression, and other activities support that process, but efficient combat remains the foundation of leveling.
For efficient progression, you want to maintain a steady rhythm of pulling, killing, recovering, looting, and pulling again. The strongest enemy you can defeat is not automatically the best XP target. A camp with slightly weaker enemies that respawn quickly and can be killed safely will often produce more experience per hour than a dangerous location where every pull requires a long recovery.
This becomes especially important when fighting social enemies that can assist nearby mobs. Pulling enemies away from their companions is usually much safer than fighting directly inside a crowded camp.

These ranges are flexible. A strong group may stay in one area longer, while a weaker group may benefit from moving to a safer camp before reaching the listed level range.

Level 1-5: Finish Your Starting Area

Your first few levels should be about learning your character rather than trying to find the absolute fastest XP location.
Starting areas provide enemies that are relatively safe and allow you to understand your basic abilities, positioning, resource management, and combat rotation. This is also the time to complete your introductory class progression and learn the fundamentals of your role.
Do not rush away from your starting zone simply because another player has suggested a different location. The small amount of time saved on travel is often insignificant compared with the benefits of learning your class properly.
Keep useful equipment, sell unwanted loot, and make sure you have enough food, water, and basic supplies before moving into more dangerous territory.

Level 3-10: Start Grouping

Grouping becomes increasingly valuable once you have a few levels behind you. Monsters & Memories is designed around social gameplay, and many dangerous areas become significantly more manageable with a balanced party.
The Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane is an important early destination. Its easier sections are suitable for lower-level groups, while deeper areas provide progressively more dangerous encounters.
Do not treat your group as five separate solo players. A proper group should operate around a defined puller, tank, healer, damage dealers, and crowd-control abilities when available.
A good group does not simply kill everything in sight. Instead, it controls the pace of combat and keeps pulls predictable.

Level 8-16: Move Into Stronger Dungeons

Around level 8, several additional options become available depending on your starting location and class.
The Infested Crypt, Tel Ekir, Ancient Crypt, and deeper sections of the Tomb offer excellent opportunities to improve both experience and equipment.
This is also the point where you should start paying much more attention to gear quality. A well-equipped character can perform dramatically better than another character at the same level using outdated equipment.
Do not spend all your money replacing every item immediately, however. Keep enough currency for food, water, ammunition, reagents, travel, and future upgrades.

Level 15-27: The First Major Mid-Level Bracket

Fallen Pass, Keeper's Bight, and Vale of Zintar become increasingly attractive once you leave the early dungeon progression behind.
This stage is where the difference between an average group and an efficient group becomes much easier to notice.
A strong party should be able to keep combat moving with short recovery periods between pulls. The goal is to avoid situations where everyone is constantly waiting for health or mana to recover.
If your group is repeatedly running out of resources, dying, or barely surviving every encounter, the camp is probably too difficult. Moving back to easier enemies can actually increase your experience per hour.

Level 20-35: Glass Flats, Scarwood, and Sungreet Strand

Around level 20, the number of viable leveling options increases significantly.
Glass Flats, Scarwood, and Sungreet Strand all provide useful hunting opportunities during the mid-level progression. These areas also demonstrate why Monsters & Memories should not be approached as a rigid zone-by-zone leveling game.
You can often stay in the same general region for multiple levels while moving between different camps and enemy types.
Solo players should prioritize targets they can kill consistently without consuming most of their health or mana. Group players should prioritize areas with good enemy density and safe pulling opportunities.
For ranged and caster classes, terrain can become a major advantage. For melee characters, finding camps with predictable enemy damage and manageable recovery time is often more important than simply choosing the highest-level mobs available.

Level 30-45: Explore the Deep

At higher levels, the Deep provides an alternative progression path and gives groups more options when surface camps are crowded or unsuitable.
Rothold and other Deep locations become useful for characters progressing through the 30-45 range. These areas are especially valuable for groups that enjoy dungeon-style combat and more controlled encounters.
Do not assume that every Deep location is automatically better XP than the surface. The best location depends on your group composition, equipment, enemy density, downtime, and ability to control pulls.
Use the same rule everywhere: measure the amount of experience you actually gain over time rather than judging an area purely by enemy level.

Level 38-50: High-Level Outdoor Grinding

As you approach the upper levels, Scarwood, Vale of Zintar, Sungreet Strand, and other high-level outdoor areas can remain useful for extended periods.
This is the stage where equipment quality, resistances, class synergy, and pull discipline become increasingly important.
A common mistake is moving immediately to the strongest available enemy as soon as you reach a new level bracket. In practice, a camp with lower-level enemies that die significantly faster can often be more efficient.
Pay attention to how long each pull takes, how much mana or health your group loses, how quickly enemies respawn, and how much time you spend moving between targets.

Level 45-60: The Final Push

The final section of the journey is significantly more dangerous.
Fallen Watch and other high-level hunting grounds become important as you approach level 60, but these areas should be treated with respect. Strong enemies, difficult pulls, and tightly packed camps can punish careless groups.
Fallen Pass and Glass Flats can also remain useful deep into the leveling journey, especially when a group needs a safer alternative to the hardest camps.
The goal is not to prove that your group can kill the strongest possible enemy. The goal is to maximize consistent experience over a long session.
If you spend more time recovering from dangerous pulls than actually fighting, step back to a safer camp.

How to Level Faster in a Group

Efficient group leveling is primarily about reducing downtime.
A strong group should have a clear method for pulling enemies, controlling additional mobs, healing efficiently, and maintaining a steady kill speed.
The puller should bring enemies to a controlled location instead of forcing the entire party to fight directly inside an enemy camp. This gives the group more room to retreat and makes accidental adds easier to manage.
Crowd control is particularly valuable when dealing with social mobs or tightly packed camps. Preventing an extra enemy from joining the fight can be more efficient than trying to burn everything down as quickly as possible.
Communication also matters. Players should know who is pulling, when crowd control is being used, when the healer is running low on resources, and when the group needs to stop pushing.

Use Rested XP Correctly

Rested experience can provide an important boost during normal leveling.
Make use of inns and campfires whenever you naturally return to town. This allows your character to maintain a rested bonus without requiring special grinding sessions dedicated entirely to maximizing the effect.
A good habit is to refill rested experience whenever you finish selling loot, banking items, changing equipment, or preparing for another trip.
This effectively turns normal downtime into additional future XP.

Food, Water, and Downtime

Never underestimate consumables.
Food and water help maintain efficient health and mana recovery, while running out of supplies can dramatically increase downtime.
Before entering a long dungeon or remote hunting area, make sure you have enough supplies for the entire session.
You should also monitor your carrying capacity. Becoming heavily encumbered can create additional problems when traveling and can make returning to town much more difficult.
Sell unwanted loot regularly, bank items you want to keep, and avoid carrying unnecessary equipment.

How to Avoid Losing Progress to Death

Death can be expensive in an old-school MMO, so avoiding unnecessary deaths is one of the easiest ways to improve long-term leveling efficiency.
Before entering an unfamiliar or dangerous area, know where your bind point is and pay attention to the surrounding geography.
Do not automatically follow a higher-level player into a camp just because they appear comfortable there. Their class, gear, experience, and group composition may allow them to handle enemies that your character cannot.
When a pull goes wrong, retreating is often the correct decision. There is nothing wrong with abandoning a fight that has become too dangerous.
A single death can erase much more time than the experience gained from several successful pulls.

The Best Solo Leveling Strategy

Solo leveling depends heavily on your class.
Your ideal targets are enemies that you can defeat consistently without draining your resources. The best solo camp is generally one where you can complete a fight, recover quickly, loot, and immediately begin looking for the next target.
Avoid spending too much time chasing rare named enemies simply because they have better loot. A named enemy that takes several minutes to kill or creates a high risk of death may be less efficient than several ordinary mobs.
Caster and ranged classes should make use of distance, terrain, line of sight, crowd control, pets, roots, snares, or other available tools. Melee characters should focus on predictable fights that minimize unnecessary movement and excessive incoming damage.

How to Choose the Right Mob

Before pulling an unfamiliar enemy, evaluate its relative strength.
Do not make the mistake of constantly fighting the strongest mobs you can technically defeat.
A good leveling target should provide worthwhile experience while dying quickly enough that the group or solo player can maintain a sustainable pace.
If every fight leaves your character nearly dead or completely out of mana, the camp is probably too difficult.
Efficiency comes from the entire cycle, not one individual kill.

Travel Efficiency Matters

Travel time can quietly destroy your XP per hour.
When choosing between two camps, consider not only the experience from the enemies but also how long it takes to reach the camp, return to town, restock, recover from deaths, and travel back.
A slightly weaker location that is close to a safe town or easy travel route can outperform a stronger camp located far away.
This becomes increasingly important when leveling with a group because every minute spent traveling affects the entire party.

When Should You Change Zones?

There is no fixed level where you must leave a zone.
Change camps when one of three things happens.
First, the enemies stop providing worthwhile experience. Second, the group can kill everything so quickly that spawn rates become the limiting factor. Third, a stronger nearby area becomes more efficient without creating excessive downtime or danger.
Do not move simply because you have reached the level commonly associated with another zone.
Stay where the XP is good.

The Best Leveling Mindset

The fastest way to level in Monsters & Memories is not always to rush toward level 60 as quickly as possible.
The game is designed around a longer progression journey involving outdoor camps, dungeons, exploration, quests, equipment upgrades, and social interaction.
A successful leveling session should feel sustainable. Find a good camp, maintain a steady pull rhythm, minimize downtime, keep your group organized, maintain your rested bonus, stay supplied, and move to harder content when your current enemies stop being efficient.
That approach will usually produce better results than constantly searching for a mythical single "best XP spot."

Monsters & Memories 1-60 Leveling Route Summary

For a simple progression route, begin in your racial starting area and focus on your starter content through approximately level 5. Move into an early dungeon such as the Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane around levels 3-10, then transition toward areas such as Infested Crypt, Tel Ekir, Ancient Crypt, and deeper Tomb camps around levels 8-16.
From approximately level 15 onward, Fallen Pass, Keeper's Bight, Vale of Zintar, Glass Flats, Sungreet Strand, and Scarwood provide the core mid-level options.
Around level 30 and beyond, begin incorporating Rothold and Deep content into your route. From the high 30s through the 40s, stronger Scarwood and Vale of Zintar camps become increasingly important. From approximately level 45 onward, high-level areas such as Fallen Watch can become part of your final progression toward 60.
The most important part of the route is not the exact zone. It is maintaining a good XP-per-hour cycle with manageable danger and minimal downtime.

Final Tips for Faster Leveling

Keep your rested bonus active whenever practical, carry enough food and water, and avoid becoming overloaded with unnecessary loot.
Learn which enemies are social, understand how your class handles multiple targets, and develop a safe pulling routine before entering harder areas.
Group whenever possible, especially when your class benefits significantly from tanks, healers, crowd control, or additional damage.
Upgrade your equipment regularly, but do not waste all your currency chasing tiny upgrades. Save enough money for consumables and important purchases.
Most importantly, remember that Monsters & Memories rewards knowledge of the world. Learning camps, travel routes, enemy behavior, class mechanics, and group tactics will make every future character easier to level.
