I have a Gnome Mage with four piece Tier 9 BIS Crafted Bracers, BiS non-heroic cloak, and very amazing other pieces from 10man ToC also.

This mage can easily hit 6-7k Dps on all fights, has different gear for haste/crit/hit depending on what spec you go.

Also has a great PvP set with some Furious and Deadly pieces great to start with in the new season.

With this gear you can pretty much get into any guild you want if you know how to play a mage.

Also on the account is a lvl 80 (A) Druid with some healing and feral pieces could easily gear him out with the new changes from last patch...
