Thread title length lowered

Thread title length has been lowered from 90 characters to 72.

If you edit your thread and the title is more than 72 characters, you will get an error saying your title is too long and you'll have to change it.

We are making this change to make the forum thread pages nicer to view. Some thread titles are too long, spreading on multiple lines and these threads make the forum look messy.

Yeah I agree. Noticed the new limit just now. Had to put my before and afters into a char count, then checked here.

Is there any possibility for those of us who lack brevity to use credits to unlock the previous 90 character thread title limit?

I've looked over some of the forums and there seem to be multiple "offender" thread titles at or near the old 90 character limit. Many threads are a one-size-fits-all group of various services within a game, so it is very hard to get across what's being offered with the new, shorter title. I foresee lots of abbreviations, broken English, and overall lack of clarity for these type of community threads.

My suggestions:
1. Enable 90 char count with credits - will lessen the messy layout
2. Shorten the width of the columns for "Replies/Views" and "Last Post By" - on my screens there is plenty of empty space
3. Create a sub-thread headline option, like the sort eBay uses. It won't bleed over, it will be marked by a new, smaller line below thread title, probably in smaller font size. For credits?
4. Edit the size of the newer "Platform" box options
5. I can think of more if need be

Preserve thread title details! Never lose data!

Is this new updated feature automatic? Can it be turned off?

This update is aimed at making the site more mobile friendly. Long titles make the threads appear on multiple lines so we want to fix that.

We are going to continue expanding the filter system, so that will provide more details sellers need in the near future, so longer titles won't be necessary.
