LUCASARTS CONFIRMS APRIL 15, 2003 RELEASE FOR
STAR WARS GALAXIES TM: AN EMPIRE DIVIDED TM

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. and SAN DIEGO -- December 20, 2002 -- LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC and Sony Online Entertainment Inc. today announced April 15, 2003 as the confirmed release date for the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. This highly awaited first installment, which combines Star WarsÒ, one of the world’s most popular brands, with the proven game development expertise of Sony Online Entertainment, is expected to revolutionize online gaming by broadening its appeal to a mass audience.

So great is anticipation for Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, the game’s Internet community has presently grown to nearly 400,000 registered members on its official web site, www.starwarsgalaxies.com, since the site was launched in November, 2000. This represents one of the largest-ever fan communities amassed for any game prior to retail availability.

“Through the launch of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided this spring, which we liken to that of a blockbuster movie opening, LucasArts will deliver on its promise to transform online gaming into mainstream entertainment,” says Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts. “We are extremely confident about the long term strength of the Star Wars Galaxies brand and its potential to redefine online gaming.”

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided recently entered the second phase of beta testing and is nearly system and feature complete. The third phase of beta is expected to begin in early 2003.

Q-3PO: We’re still looking at potentially January for Beta 3, but we won’t know for sure for a couple weeks still.

Q-3PO posted this in response to a question about Xbox SWG players being able to play SWG with we PC users:

No. Although based on the same license, they will be separate games that are designed specifically for the individual platforms. What makes a good PC game doesn't always translate to what makes a good console game.

Shug_Ninx:
-I know that some were expecting the game in December-February timeframe, but we've said all along that we didn't want to release Star Wars Galaxies until we felt that it was ready, and that we we wouldn't really know our exact ship date until we reached Beta 2 and we could start seeing how all our high-falutin' ideas actually worked out.

-The April 15th date wasn't selected lightly. Now that we've been through the first phase of beta and are well into beta 2, we have a very good understanding of what still needs to be done, how much time it will take to polish and test what we do have, etc. We feel that April 15th gives us finish a game that we're all really proud of.

-We don't expect this date to change.

-Right now, we're just reaching our "Feature and System Complete" milestone. That means that any system (chat, combat, PvP, etc.) or feature (special moves in combat, all aspects of professions, etc.) that will be in the game at launch is pretty much in the game (albeit in some cases in a very rudimentary form). There are a few things straggling, but we're 99% locked in terms of features. Sometime after the New Year, we hope to let you know our final feature set.

-From here until launch, we'll be: adding content (more missions, hand-crafted quests, locations, etc.); adding data (filling out spawn tables for all the planets, generating combat variables for all the weapons, etc.); testing; balancing; and polishing wherever appropriate. We do not plan to use the time between now and April to add new features or systems (although we have some stuff already in the works for post-launch, our goal is to make sure that what is in the game at launch is polished, stable, and balanced).
