How do you know if someone paypal account was stolen in order to scam someone of their World of Warcraft account?

I was scammed. Contacted Blizzard who locked my account down and as soon as I did that I start getting messages from the person who paid me first about how his account was hack and didn't know who I was. For some reason I think he is lying because he has not responded to my reply of 2 unauthorized transactions.

If he did get hacked I think he would have so there has been no activity on his part after he disputed the first charge when I gave him my information.

What kind of information do you have on him?

Name?
Phone Number?
MD Username?

Anything?

it is possible to avoid this - use WU! hahaha or google checkout. or validate them first (although fcvdsss is right, you would stop people who are REALLY determined)

if i am doubtful of the ownership of a paypal account, i get them to send me the sum, own the dispute, then close it before i send them the account information or mail it to them.

this way, once a dispute has been opened, it can no longer be opened again.

ask for an email from the paypal email they using.. also be careful of the address it was sent from.. if its [email protected] or @aol.com or any email address. check where it is sent.. i check it via the sent by feature of my email provider.

sorry for responding to this so late, I just started to deal with this situation again.

I have his name: Jason Long
His paypal email address [email protected]
and his AIM name: malabandineruby
His MD username could be ewox because he is the only person who messaged me.

Thanks if there is any other advice I could get. I have another post up asking about proof of delivery.

Simple question. Run your system of checks. If someone is registering out of multiple locations, as determined by your precise questioning methods, it will raise a flag. This is a sign that the buyer is unable to match up his information, and likely the account isn't his.

This only works if used conservatively. There's a 2% dispute limit quota allowed monthly on a Paypal account. Abuse of that method will result in the limitation or elimination of your Paypal account. It works, do so carefully, and don't abuse the method.
