Recently, SE made it to where you are required to launch FFXIV through Steam if it was originally bought on Steam. Here is the work around.
On your PC, right click the FFXIV launch icon.
Click Properties.
In the Target box, add a space and -issteam at the end, then hit apply.

I have already been contacted several times asking how to get by this by people I sold to.
