Sorry this is copypasta, but it is my full, unedited encounter with the user known as St0n3Cl3aR. Hopefully everyone will find this amusing, and know to avoid the guy

NOTE: This is my first time really selling an account, I tried to trade one of my friend's accounts awhile back (with my friend's blessing, he had quit about half a year before and I had been playing that character as an alt, I had all his info.) so I'm pretty new to this. When the trade started I hadn't played WoW in months so a lot of stuff that may be obvious to most of you wasn't so obvious to me. I learned a lot from this guy
wink.gif

I edited out part of my screenname because I use Pidgin and it has my real name followed by MD for that account.

First contact with the guy:

Phone? Western Union? From all I have read those are ideal things to look out for!:

For his bro? What a nice guy! How quickly things will change:

Borrow $40 from a friend? That should have been a first warning sign, hindsight is 20/20 unfortunately:

Plans to talk later (damn being on call for work!):

I did have an offer, it was really good, I was 99% sure it was a scam though but wanted to check it out:

Suddenly he's not paying 1400 but 1500? For someone who has to borrow 40 thats pretty strange. At the time I thought he was just rounding up for simplicity. Hindsight is 20/20 once more:

It's a dud, I'm back to business:

Getting ready for first contact:

Off the phone, basically he said we'd do a 50/50 information deal, at the time it sounded fair because I hadn't been playing WoW so long I completely forgot that they give the account info when you change things like that, as I mentioned before. Oops:

Posting the e-mail (he also receives a copy I believe) and I didn't notice the account info, DOH! My mistake. I never said I was smart or good at this
wink.gif
But I would like to note it is an easy mistake to make since they don't really put any warning before the account name, it's just in the body of the e-mail and easy to glaze over:

Continuation of the above. I've learned never to glance over e-mails again!:

In this screenshot I realize I can make the Pidgin history window bigger and save myself some time and effort. I also start kinda freakin out when I realize the info is there, crap!:

We talk again, he's really chill and reassuring and is confident enough to fool me, especially about how he's risking a lot of money as well. I'm generally very trusting of people, now I am not when dealing with [censored] like this
wink.gif
Burned once, never burned again. But on the phone he agreed as soon as he got back to the computer he'd close AIM and turn it back on so the name would clear, he actually did it sooo... stupid trusting mode kicked in:

Okay, more red flags here. I'm already at the point where like, if he's scamming me it's too late to do anything about it (Blizz offices are closed) and anything he does I can fix since I am the original owner of the account, so I just went along with it incase he WAS genuine, did send the money, and is just impatient and paranoid. It was already too late, why not? Anyhow he started talking about the last name and a "program", I figured he was just trying to transfer the hunter (or the warrior) but he apparently owned himself somehow by messing up the info, LOL! Instant karma?:

I love how he presses enter in the middle of making up the number. At this point I'm 99% sure its a scam due to the e-mail changing on the account management page, (I have screenshots of the first letter of the first e-mail and the first letter of the second, I don't remember where I saved em but when I find em I'll post it too) but as I mentioned before its too late, might as well give it the benefit of the doubt right now since I can't contact blizz and get anything fixed yet:

This one is priceless, he's trying to figure out my secret password:

Final set of messages from him the day after, I had already started the process of getting my account back. I like how quick he logs out!:

So now I am working on getting my account back, no big deal. Why am I willing to make myself look stupid and naieve? I'm an honest seller, I just wanna sell my account and wash my hands of WoW. This guy scammed me, and he "won" in a way, but he hasn't won in the long run. I don't want this dirtbag to be able to scam anyone else either, not everyone is a seasoned MarkeeDragon user right now, and I'm sure when a lot of you were starting you got hit before. Maybe this will help someone else new to this who has forgotten details like I did to avoid trouble. If so, looking stupid and naieve is a worthy sacrifice. I'd like to consider myself a man of honor, even if I am in a den of thieves (to butcher a quote from Firefly!)

Also, please check out these threads, they have the original post with my logs of my entire conversation with him:

Also check this post of him trying to sell the warrior he scammed from me:

Also this little lovely thing here of him basically confessing it to me:

Like, this guy is so bad. He's probably got downs or some form of mental retardation so like... I find it hard to laugh too hard at him without feeling a little bad
frown.gif
Hopefully someday with love from his parents and proper medication he may be able to function in society. (Of course this doesn't say much for me to get scammed by such an unintelligent [censored] but lets just ignore that fact for now.)

EDIT:
His AIM names:
st0n3cl3ar and possibly il0v3p0s69 (same oh look at me I'm a hardcore internet leet speak kiddie style). Plus on the second name he tried to scam me of the account AGAIN, (at least I guess he was going to) except he made the mistake of calling me by my name within the first three lines
wink.gif
So it was like whoah, are you retarded?

Anyhow, I'll post those logs too if someone would like to see em. JUst ask.
