Make sure to prep your post. The more information about your character the better. Post your gear, post your skills and reputation. Post a screen shot.

Now, its time to wait for a response!
When a response comes there are some tricks to telling if the person is a scammer. Here are some tips.

1) If one of the first things they ask for is the Armory. Assume they are a scammer. There is personal information about the character on the armory. There is potential for you character to be spotted by blizzard and banned. PROTECT YOUR ARMORY!

2) If the person is NOT from america then do not sell to them. (assuming your from america). Blizzard bans based on where you log in from. If you log in from california, then that night log in from china...your account is BANNED.

3) Watch for the person to use american slang or improper grammar. Plenty of people have lied to me about where they live. If you feel like english isnt their first language. its not.

4) If they want the armory link, they MUST POST ON YOUR THREAD! Do not give out armory information unless you get some information from them. If they do not have an account on markee they get treated differently. If they have less than 20 posts and no rep, id treat them as if they had no account at all.

(TIP: If the person calls you "sir" in a sort of random way. RED LIGHT. They are not american. Americans dont call people sir.)

OK so, you have established that this person is probably a scammer. They dont have an account on markee. They dont sound like they are from america. Your off to a good start.

RULES FOR DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE AN ACCOUNT ON MARKEE.

1) Require that they CALL you to give YOU their paypal information. You DO NOT allow them to send you money. You send them a request for money ALWAYS.
The reason they are to call you is to verify that they are from america. Their number will be in the form of XXX-XXX-XXXX. If they refuse, they are definitly a liar, and probably a scammer.

2) You send an invoice Via Paypal. YOU DO NOT SEND THE INVOICE AS SERVICE!!!!
You MUST must must must must must, i cannot stress enough, must send as GOODS (other). In the invoice you make sure the note says the goods are for world of warcraft characters and leveling and etc. Make sure it says everything to the detail. If its for Powerleveling, you put their account information on the invoice. Use your sense on this one.

3) You go to the post office and you send out a piece of paper with all of the account information on it. You DO NOT, under any circumstances give them the account information in any way other than this. you MUST GET A TRACKING NUMBER FOR THE MAIL. This is how paypal protects its sellers. If you do not have a tracking number, your screwed.

(TIP: Take pictures of everything, take pictures of the paper with the info, take pictures of the envelope, take pictures of the tracking number, take pictures of your convo, and the emails, and the invoice. EVERYTHING)

4) Dont send the mail untill the payment has cleared. Once the money is in your paypal, mail the info and enjoy your sale!

IF THE PERSON DOES HAVE AN ACCOUNT ON MARKEE AND HAS REPUTATION, or TWV.

1) Follow the same rules, but i go ahead and give out the login and password for the account. Just enough that they can play while they are waiting for their mail.

2) Make sure to mail out the info asap. If they dispute before the tracking number exists, your screwed.

There is plenty more information i can give, if you have questions feel free to IM me!

Merry Christmas!

I think this deserves a Sticky.

Good information!! Now i am confused !! so if the buyer were from asia, How are they gonna buy a account without getting ban!!! Good thing i read your post, i've been searching around for more info on this, But wasn't sure how is the right way to go at it. And no i am not from China!!! I've meet lots of China scammers that tried to scammed me.

Sir, I am American (Born and raised in California). When I am trying to sell something, Im going to be as pleasant and proper as possible. Meaning, Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Mam, No Mam.

Horrible "Tip".

Pretty good guide. Only one thing I would say should be a little different. It's the "Sir" issue. Most any American who has done military service will use Sir when addressing someone. It's drilled into them and it sticks for a lifetime.

Heh, true. Im a formally trained martial artist. Im used to calling everyone Sir. But i dont do it online.
I got plans to write a better guide. Any chance we can sticky it somewhere. I was gonna do a more in debth one with pictures of what stuff should look like and so forth.

^_^ your a rarity then. I also specified "In a random way".
Yes sir, no sir isnt random. Its polite. Ill find a log somewhere and give an example.

so not a "horrible tip", maybe just not thoroughly explained.

Thats not true, your just treated differently. You dont get the leniency as established traders. You dont get the luxury of getting an account name and password immediately. You can still make the trade, and you can still develop your reputation, you just have to jump through hoops to do it.

"Cant just hop into the ring with Ali cause you think you can box" That means, you gotta prove it first.

OR, you can just go get trust who verified and bypass all of the problems altogether. /u/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for this information. I saw some accounts on eBay, so I was going to try to sell one on there and got a flood of emails from names I recognized from scammer lists, so I ended it early and started researching how/where to safely sell an account and ended up at this site. I wish I had read this before PMing someone here about the account!

EXAMPLE OF WHAT I MEAN ABOUT SIR:

allenpo420 (8:01:13 PM): hi

allenpo420 (8:12:30 PM): sir , i work for a company.we do the job for many years, and we can give a good price

Although I have heard of instances where people have reported your armory and gotten you banned, don't assume that they're a scammer because they're asking for your armory. That's being a little too paranoid and you're going to have a difficult time selling your account.

YOU HAVE TO CALL THEM!!! This is extremely important for a few reasons -

1) Scammers can use things like VoIP now that are very difficult to re-trace etc.
2) Scammers can use calling cards and things like that so that you can't trace them back.
3) In case they try to file a chargeback with paypal and say the payment was unauthorized, you can show paypal your phone bill and show them how you spoke with the person on the date of the transaction. If they call you, it only shows up as an incoming call (it won't show the phone number that called you).

Write their phone number down too, you'll thank me later! /u/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

great info on the phone call. Ill put that in my next guide. I got more helpful info to add in.

As far as the armory. I still stand on that issue.
If someone messages you and says

"Hi, can i see your armory"

Your immediate responce is

"Sure just post on the thread"

If they respond with anything other than "Ok!"
Dont bother.

I agree with having people post on your thread, but you made it sound like you should never ever give out your armory.

I'd like to comment on your post.

Overall its good and true.

But don't discriminate people who are not American, or aren't from America.

Here I am speaking english pretty perfectly, I'm not even American. Half Asian, half German, living in Indonesia. Just cos we're not from there doesn't mean we're scammers. Although I would agree that a lot of them ~may~ be, I'm just saying don't write us off.

You can always still sell to people who come from other places using other payment methods such as Western Union, which basically puts the seller at 0 risk, and the buyer at the risk.

Although, I'd like to add that you are completely wrong when you said to put "buying time spent and wow char etc" on paypal. You are right that it should be goods, but you should NOT mention its for a WoW account. PayPal offers no protection for wow accounts. might as well say its for some item delivery to wherever you live, or for an xbox360 which costs roughly as much as some accounts.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents.

Its not discrimination. If you take a US account thats been logged in from say "Nebraska" for its whole existance. Then all of a sudden its getting logged in from "Indonesia". Blizzard will ban it as soon as they catch on to the IP change. HENCE we do not sell to anyone from outside the US. Its not that i think people from other countries are scammers. Its that your garunteed to be screwed if someone logs into their new character then it gets banned.

As far as not telling paypal its for wow...Your 100% incorrect. I got my information directly from a paypal representative.
Also, Saying the payment was for an xbox360 means the person who sends the payment, can (at any time) choose to do a callback on their money for not recieving their xbox360.
Its an incorrect description of the item, which means the seller is screwed.

If you are selling a piece of paper. And that piece of paper has data on it. Then you can tell paypal thats what you said you would send and they will secure your transaction.

no not at all. Its a common thing. I dont bother with punctuation or capitolization. It slows down my typing in chat. I do periods and i do the first letter of a sentence and thats about it.
Lack of punctuation is NO hint to a scammer. I would say the majority of americans dont punctuate correctly.
