Hey MD,
Recently, my friend ShadowStar and I have been talking about how we can help the community by posting some of the latest scams out there today. This list will constantly be updated as new scams are invented and being put into the works.
1)Wrath of the Lich King Beta Scam - So, you get an email from an anymonous user, and it contains somthing in the linges of ''Congratulations, you have been one of the few chosesen to be in the Beta Testing for World of Warcrafts Wrath of the Lich King. Further down the page, it will give you more false information, and redirect you to the site:
This takes the form of a reasonably well formatted mail (broken in gmail, though, which was the first thing that seemed off to me). It purportedly comes from "WotLK Development Team <[email protected]>". Actual headers are below, for anyone interested.
It has the text:

Looks convincing enough, except for a few small details of style, but the link text doesn't go to that address; it goes to:
http://wowtlk-beta.awardspace.co.uk/index.html
... which is obviously not good (the URL actually given resolves to a 404 error).
There, it asks for your username and password for WoW. That's all anyone needs to steal your account, really.
If you've got that mail, and filled in your details, then first, change your password, and second, contact customer support at Blizzard as soon as possible.
And obviously, letting people in your guild know that this scam is out there would also be good.
The actual headers of the mail I got:

2) 1) GM POWER ON LIVE SERVERS SCAM - Man wouldn't it be cool if you had GM powers on a live server? Well guess what, their are people who can teach you how to become a GM all you need to do is follow their easy steps which include sending your account name and password, how they catch you is by making a video of themselves showing skills only GM's can do but remember if you work a private server you can do anything. So be smart and PAY ATTENTION to what you are doing!
3) E-MAILS FROM ''BLIZZARD'' SCAM- So, you get an email from blizzard asking you to provide your account information because they believe the account ''Stolen'' or something of that matter and they need to ''Verify'' if you really are the Original Owner. Watch out for these people, remember Blizzard employees have unique e-mail addresses compare those to the fake e-mail from blizzard and you will be safe, also remember these scammers are extremely smart and advanced and can make the e-mail look as real as possible so be extremely cautious with these e-mails. Finally blizzard now sends real e-mails warning you that you have been e-mailed by someone using blizzards name in their address so look for those.
4) Cheap Powerleveling and ''Free'' Services SCAM - Don't belive these guys, Probably around 98% of all ''free'' services scams. If you do ever consider buying PL, farming, or anything of that sort. Make sure you know the site is legit, and its not a free forum website/free hosts etc. For powerleveing etc. Remember Trust Who Verification is Required for any services on MD. MAKE SURE THE PERSON YOU ARE PAYING TO DO SERVICES FOR YOU IS TRUST WHO VERIFIED. For Powerleveling, and other Online gaming needs I would reccommend:
www.Forsaken-Farmers.com & www.ShatteredCrystal.com
4) MIDDLE MAN SCAM- This scam has you and another seller talking on aim. He will offer you a middle man and tell you about another legit trading site where theirs a well reputable middle man who is willing to help, expecting you to agree you give the middle man who can possibly be the seller on trillion or the sellers friend. They will act all legit, and won't even admit to them scamming you. They would just simply log off, and pursue there next victim.
Scamming Middle Man Site - www.WarcraftLoot.net
5) Account Renting Scam - If you ever get any IM's or Email/PM's regarding someone wanting to rent your account, just go ahead and block him/her. Account Renting is the one of the biggest scams out there, and also is the #1 to get your account permanently banned.
6)Screenshot Scam- So your on AIM or MSN or whatever then you get a message from sexytoad12 (this is an example name if anyone has a aim name for sexytoad12 lol and don't worry I am not calling you a scammer)
anyways Sexytoad12 messages you and wants to trade accounts you both agree to trade and he suggest Screenshots to prove changes have been made, you would make changes for example change the e-mail to his e-mail and he would do the same and make others changes and so and so on, now your wondering wheres the scam shadow? Well settle down and look you just got scammed, people telling you on any messenger that the safest way to trade is the SS method are scammers, why because they use a program called Kazou which lets you modify the page you are using to whatever you want and then be able to SS, so if anyone approaches you telling you that lets do the SS method tell that person goodbye /u/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
7) Reputable MD Users Impersonation Scam- As many of you might know, there have been tons of scammers Impersonating Reputable MD users by switching letters and numbers around in there AIM Screen Name. For example, AZNBOI1989 <--- Is the Legit Screen Name. cammers will try and do something like this with there desired Impersonated Screen name : AZNBOIl989 ( The 1 In 1989 Was changed to a lowercase L).
***** TO AVOID BEING SCAMMED & IMPOSTERED *****
To avoid this make sure you Always copy and paste the person you are doing business withs AIM into a new Message to see if they match.
Also, it never hurts to make AIM's with O's, 0's, L,s I,s and 1's and spaces. Those are the easiest to impersonate. Hoped this help.
7) Hacked Paypal Scam - Hacked Paypal Scam: If your dealing with Paypal make sure You know the guys name who is sending you the money from Paypal. If you receive fraudulent payments you can get your money recalled by Paypal and possibly more. Just make sure the name the person gives you is the same as the one on the paypal. Don't do business with people who have to use there ''Friends'' or there ''Brothers'' Paypal, too risky. It's better to send the money to who you are doing business with in case something goes wrong.
Thats about it for now, I will keep this post updated as I said /u/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Basically, just be smart and think about what you are doing. Here are some additional steps when making a trade or a sell:
1) Don't rush into things
2) Talk over phone
3) Exchange info about each other
4) Trust each other
5) Ask for any additional information you may need before completing the sale.
6) Ask for a Middle Man if one of you are still nervous about doing the sale.
7) Be smart, don't do anything you wouldn't do if you weren't under pressure.
Usually scammers want to rush into things, and just want to try and get the account as fast as they can. If the person you are talking with stays with you throughout the process, and feels the same about this as you do. Then you most likely have a legit client. But, if the client is rushing through things, getting mouthy, and overall setting of a bad vibe, then call off the deal and continue your search. Be smart kids.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me. I could help with just about everything /u/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Goodluck, and hope this will help.
Sincerely,
Destiny
