RMT in MMO and other games - some general questions

Hi,

I would like to know Your experience with Real Money Trading virtual items (account, currency, boosting and similar). At the moment I'm in the middle of writing my master thesis about Virtual Items trading. I mostly need information about:

1) What was the reason behind buying/selling your virtual items in the first place
2) What were the main difficulties while performing a trade
3) Where were you looking to buy/sell virtual items in the first place (e-bay, google, here)
4) Anything You learned about such trades, what would You like to change in the way they are performed currently.

If You could share some of your experiences I would be grateful - It will surely be much of a help for me.

Out of order but heres some feedback:
3)Playerauctions while I could use it. Never used ebay for it as they are strict in us on virtual items.

2) Main difficulties? Protecting yourself. I have only had maybe 2 people not deliver accounts when paid.
A lot of account recalls and payment recalls though. That is why i pretty much ONLY sell my own original owner accounts. Every time new content comes out recalls happen.

1)Was extra money started with gold farming and moved on to accounts as well.

4)Honestly nothings really there to change. Say playerauctions- protects the seller from chargebacks but NO buyer protection, can recall accounts freely once paid. So I think this setup here works good as long as you are careful.

doomedtofail - Thank You for feedback - sites like epicnpc and its rules are covered in my master thesis as an example of how community makes it their responsibility to make trades safer (with banlists, warnings etc).

In that case:

Protecting myself from chargebacks and protecting myself and customers from RMT bans.

I've only sold virtual goods on game hacking/botting forums and forums dedicated to exchanging virtual goods.

4) Anything You learned about such trades, what would You like to change in the way they are performed currently.
There's not much to change. Most of the dangers associated with selling virtual goods have major tradeoffs associated with methods to protect against them and/or are outside the jurisdiction of forums like epicnpc.
