Private Message PM System Update

We updated our Private Message system today to make communications between members simpler. Messages will now be grouped as "Conversations" instead of each message being separate. This will allow members to quickly and easily view an entire PM chain from one page instead of having to find old messages scattered in many different PMs.

Over the next few days we'll be making adjustments to better integrate it into our site. We're aware there are a few issues like an advertising post inbetween each message and no sidebar. We'll be fixing these very soon.

It feels weird but I it's probably because I got used to the vbulleting PM system. Looks like a good change.

One thing that I found annoying is that the only way to open a conversation is to click on the title. When the title is small, like "hi", it's hard to click it, and easy to misclick because it's very close to the username, especially on a touchscreen.
Make the avatar clickable to open the conversation, or maybe even the whole row.

2. Put the 'show signature' button, but it should be unchecked by default. I want my sig to be visible in at least my first posts, mostly due to the skype add button.

3. Display number of feedback like in normal posts so that I don't have to open the member's profile to see it's feedback. :p Maybe remove post Thanks/Like and Credits to save space?

I enjoy the new conversation/threaded method as it eliminates inbox clutter.

I do hope that there will be the ability, if not integrated by default, to revert to the old visual style where the message pane only consumes a percentage of the screen rather than a near full width layout. The latter is convenient on a mobile platform.
I've also noticed new messages are bumped to the top. The style of newer messages in the list however do not differentiate much from read messages, so the overall effect ends up blending together. Accessing the user settings shows an easy to read display of notifications however it'd be more clicks to go through.

In any case thank you for the update and I look forward to seeing the revisions over time :D
 
i'd like to suggest that "location info" button is included in PM. That will be very nice to add.
 
New messages have bold titles, however it's still hard to see and we are planning to add another indicator to make new replies easier to see. We are also planning to add the "location info" button to messages. Sidebar is also going to be added back.
 
When you receive a feedback, the iTrader notification message can't be marked as read.
When you go to account settings, it's listed under new private messages:

Clicking it and opening the conversation does not turn it to "read". Selecting the conversation and clicking mark as read also has no effect. I couldn't find a way to make them read. They just stack up in the Settings panel as unread PMs.

EDIT:
Even deleting the conversation doesn't remove it from the Settings panel. I guess these messages still count as old PMs.

There is no preview post button when creating or responding to a conversation. I got used to always clicking it before submitting a post or msg. :(
 
Good change overall, just its a bit annoying to get 2 email everytime you get a pm. Atm getting one email for new converstion and one for new private message, i think 1 email for new pm is enough and then one for new converation is not needed.
 
I only get one PM for each new message.
If you had previously set email notifications for normal PMs, it could be that the setting is still active and that's why you get double emails.

I'm sure there are people who use it just as much as me. :(
It's not like it makes PMing harder for those who don't. No reason to remove it.

The last post arrow does not work. It just opens the conversation normally and does not take you to the last post.

Thank you. Well get that fixed.

We have not been able to replicate the dup email issue. We're only getting 1 email when a new message or conversation is created.

Are the emails exactly the same? Are they delivered at the same time?

This is a feature I do miss. Since I'm often times drafting a list of services to an individual the preview format made it convenient to see and revise if necessary.

When PM system was updated i started receiving 2 emails for every pm, then as someone suggested here i checked the settings and unchecked one box(Email Notification of New Conversations) Now i receive only 1 email for each PM, strangely its subject is "New conversation".

I understand that, its just that there are 2 options:
Receive Email Notification of new Conversations
Receive Email Notification of new Messages

I have disabled the first option, but im still getting emails with subject "New conversation" when i should receive emails with subject "New pm". Not a big deal, just a bit strange.
 
There is definetely something broken with email notifications.
I have both checked and I receive one email for each message, always with the title "New conversation", even when a message is added to an existing conversation.
And in that case, the title of the conversation inside the email body is empty.

Make the link sent in the email lead directly to that particular conversation, and not just the conversations list.
 
When will the rest of the changes be done?

- This is not returning, there is no need for this function.

- Signature will only show once anyway, so this is not needed.

Link in email does not lead to the particular conversation

- These will be included in the next update, but it's a few weeks out.

- I have not yet confirmed these, if they are an issue, we'll try to get them fixed in the next update also.
 
There is no option to download conversations.

I'm pleased with all the revisions since the new pm system came out.

A couple of ideas came to mind if it's possible to see these adjustments in the future.

1. Place the page navigation at the top of the display as well, not only the bottom.
This is easy to press End key for but it's merely an added convenience

2. Allow customization for amount of replies displayed per discussion page within our settings.
Example: 10, 20, 50 per page etc. The default appears to currently be 25 per page.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. We're almost ready with the next update, so these changes won't make it this time, but I'll see about added them in the next update.
 
When I click on the last page button, the page is empty.

Pages 37,38,39,40 are empty. Messages start from page 36, and only 4 are shown.
