Prepurchase scam continue with standard edition key

Hey all

So by the looks of things a few people have been scammed by this pre-purchase method. I have, but I can also say that in the days I had to play guild wars2 it was ace and I dont want to lose all the progress I made and have to potentially start again. My question is does any bod know if I can just apply any standard edition retail code to my account so that itl work, or does it have to be the one associated with the pre-purchase code and im doomed.............And have to start a fresh account

i think u can just register the key in here https://register.guildwars2.com/ and embed it to your email that that you used to login, and pick the server that u play before.
