While I've never done something like this per se, I do have experience on the "other side". What you are describing is a black hat marketing technique where people make fake FB accounts and spam friend requests out to random people, then they spam you with affiliate links and CPA offers. I know how to spot these accounts because I do this sort of thing as a living (although I don't do this strategy... I'm more white hat legit).
