I dont know whether it is a bug or not but I just put in my login ID only without the password and was still able to login so does that mean my account isn't safe/secure

Are you sure your didn't save your login info in your browser and it autofilled once you entered the username?

If you did, autofill will enter the password for you.

I was unable to replicate this, so my guess is you have your login info saved and it autofilled.
