I think of it like this Cata dosent come out for another say 2-3 months, But when it does gear will matter at first for dungeons, Better geared faster you will kill mobs and be able to solo elites.
 
Would you want more than 1 80? Decently geared, gear matters not since Cata comes out soon, RS was last raid mate.
