Is securing an email account 100% protected?

The game I want to buy is tied to an email account. Services like gmail and yahoo, are they retrievable by the owner if I change all the security questions and password? I refuse to buy from someone who has an email based in russia or something because I don't understand their email services and security settings.

If it's retrievable then me changing all the security questions and password is just delaying the inevitable that one day they'll steal the account I purchased back.

Any EpicNPC admin see this happen before?

Changing email security information and game security information does not guarantee protection. Essentially any game account could be recalled no matter what you do if the person tried hard enough.

damn so the risk of a recall never goes away. you've been around for a long time Doomed... what's the percentage of people that go out of their way to really try to get their email back. I've looked into gmail and if I change all the recover information, personal information, worst case... take a poison pill and delete the email (after 5 days) it's very unlikely to be retrieved.

I just wanted to get your personal realistic thoughts, because i'm obviously worst case scenario paranoia.

Its unlikely but possible. I do not have a percentage because idk how many accounts sell over all, but google seems safest of all.

The percent of mail account recovery is 2% in my deals, out of all deals where a mail account was involved. Even when the email account was the main component, like youtube or xbox live accounts. And the percentage of game account recalls is around 7%, where most of them were sold without the original email account (the email was changed by the buyer).
An email recall happened a week ago, first time after a year, breaking my streak. :D

Many people don't know that you can recall an email account and it's harder than recalling a game account.
A bigger problem is whether the email account you receive is the original mail for the game account, and not just a temporary one made for the sale. If there are no older messages on it, there is no way for you to know.

Wow nice statistics ok that makes me feel more at ease. Ya good thing is Kabam Accounts show you the email address that's registered and they won't change it. Though I can change my personal info (name, telephone #) so I assume those are things that will make it more difficult for someone to retrieve it. I guess the 2% that go through all this trouble must be addicted. Like someone who needs crack, but sells it to a druggie with a weapon then goes back to the drug house to steal it back lol.

thanks for the stats

RJC1986,

I've had some first hand experience with this issue myself. Like doomedtofail said, there is no 100% sure way to prevent an email account from being recalled. All email services have ways for the original owners of the account to restore their access to their email. It's a shame but I don't think it's common that it happens.
