Since IP bans don't seem to be an option for people making multiple accounts the same day after banned there should be some sort of ip check process for new accounts imo would make it so there is alot less repeat scammers

The problem with this sean is it is so easy to change your IP address that an IP check will do nothing to help stop returning scammers. Granted yes some people aren't that smart and Don't know how to change their IP and we usually catch those people pretty quickly.

I've seen someone make 4 accounts in a day and somehow get sales on them... Rather recently I'm sure an automated system can be put in place that alerts mods immediately of stuff like that, I'm not a programming genius but I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult and it would cutdown on morons 99%

There will always be scammers. To be honest any automated system we put in could do more harm than good, and if it worked then it would only defend off a small portion of the account "rinse and repeaters". Our best defense against it is members of the forum spotting them and then having us deal with it, and we are quick at doing so (within an hour or so). Some of the mods do regular checks on new accounts, but that gets old quick.

If you see something suspicious, report it. (As you have been doing Sean1125)

An alert would be nice and maybe put them in a custom usergroup called "Suspicious Users" until they are either cleared or banned. Just an idea :) At least that way, you have a little bit better of an idea of who to look at insofar as banning or not.

KH, the decision for the ban is made during the review of the account, the "Suspicious Users" group would not be useful. Remember that we are quick at this too, but you guys should be able to spot them anyways. If you see one, report it. Simple. :)

Legitimate users typically have no use for knowledge of things like proxy servers, but as a mod for a fairly large poker website, when people want to get around an automated system, they will find a way. There really is no good automated way of stopping people described in OP without hampering new members.

And with how many new users get added monthly, legitimate or not, IP checking them all manually would be much more of a chore than you would want to ask any unpaid help for a website/forum.

You can add more than 1 paypal email to your paypal account, and make any one the primary whenever you want.

This is an interesting point. I will have to do some research into this. So it's possible to become a completely different user by creating another email, linking it and changing your primary email to the new one? I've known scammers who have linked another email but never bothered to changed their primary account. So I was able to trace it back to their scammer PayPal email. Now I wonder why. Hmm....

Wait... I *think* I found a way around this. When I do my verification I record each person's PayPal Account Creation date so if there's a match on this, it's probably the same person.

Yea it's hard to verify everyone, but that's exactly what my goal is. Verify everyone on any site for free with no major personal info required. To clarify obviously my free service isn't going to be as great as the paid services out there, but I just want to empower newbie traders with the tools to make decisions themselves.

I recommend a script that checks phone numbers. That can be done automatically with the right technology. It's of course, not a perfect solution, no solution covers everything. But every layer helps that that's a good one to employ.
