I didn't get scammed but will I get banned?

I wanted to thank everyone for the various tips and guides on not getting scammed I found them extremely helpful as I traded away my character. I have a shiny new warrior now and I owe it all to the MD community, thank you.

I have, however, noticed that while there is a wealth of information on not getting scammed there is really no information how to care for the character after it is securely in your possession so I have some questions, who knows perhaps this is the beginning of a sticked thread!

Can I change the name on the account to my name safely?

How long (if anytime at all) should I wait before I transfer the account to a different server?

Should I even log onto the character from a different IP for the first week?

Can I pay for the new character with my credit card which was associated with my old account?

Is it dangerous if I join the same guild that my old toon was in once I transfer?

Can I transfer money to my new character from a bank alt that was associated with my old character?

If I do get a letter from Blizz how should I respond and what excuses can I use to explain away things like server transfers, different names, different emails, different credit cards etc?

Please respond to any and all questions (or even add your own quesitons) that you feel like you are an expert on and I will update the post as the answers come pouring in.

Thanks again MD!

Change name when you do server transfer . its free\safe
If you mean RL name and stuff, dont touch anything.

Transfer it asap (transfer to a new account first is smart..) less chanse to be recalled

Should I even log onto the character from a different IP for the first week?

3-4h should be okay.

No, account can\will be locked.

No

Yes

They only contact you if its a serious problem. (freezed\banned ur account.) and unless you got photo IDs of seller (OO owner), account is probably lost.

good luck mate

Hi there...I am new to markee...but not to buying/selling accounts.

From experience, I will tell you, the most shady thing you could do is have the seller register the account you are buying to an e-mail that you have attached to another account, in which the names would not match. I had an account I bought "locked" for this, and I laughed it off like how dumb can I be? Luckily it is only a temporary suspension in this instance, and there are ways around that that I will list below.

Another shady thing you can do is pay for an account with a credit card you have been using to pay for another account. I would suggest using game cards or a different CC.

Blizzard typically doesn't BAN an account...what they do is lock the account down over suspicion of account sharing, unauthorized access to an account, or dispute of ownership (meaning the original owner tried to take his account back, so they lock it down, in order to prove the "original" owner is trying to get it back.

For Blizzard to verify this, they have a form you have to fill out, and included with this form you need to send a photo I.D. with the registered name on the account on it.

Often times when contact information is changed they have suspicion of account sharing...and will actually request a bank/credit card statement with the registered name on the WoW account on it, because this form also includes the current address.

So...to make yourself the MOST secure...when you purchase an account...be sure to ask your seller for a copy of their photo I.D..

That way, if the original owner tries to jack it back sometime, and the account is locked, you have the means of getting it unlocked. Or, if your account is jeopardized by a keylogger, and it gets locked down for unauthorized access, you have a way around that...as you may lose contact with your seller, so you can't request them to do it later.

You can never feel FULLY secure when buying an account...because Blizzard will bend over backwards for the registered name on the account. And, only the original person on the account, can provide bank/credit card statements if they are requested.

But, as long as you request a copy of the photo I.D. as part of the package when you buy, you are protecting yourself from a lot of risks involved. The photo I.D has to be a school I.D. or Birth Certificate if the registered user is under the age of 18, and the photo I.D. can be any government issued I.D. if the named person on the account is 18 or older.

As I stated, the seller may be a legit guy/gal...and not want to scam you in anyway, and has no intention of ever taking it back, but if the account is jeopardized at a later date, and you lose contact with the person you bought the account from, you are out of luck...the Photo I.D. helps greatly!

Thank you so much for reading, I hope I answered any questions you had...if not, shoot in a reply...I am a big fan of this site from what I've been reading..and am actually looking for an account myself. I also hope I can bring information to people, to make them feel as secure as possible about transactions made, as this is a popular consumer market, with huge risk, and I have experienced many ends of the spectrum...from scams to account jeopardizing and locking.

Also, if someone could explain to me the reputation thing, I would love to know how I represent myself on the site for reputation.

The form of which I am referring to in my post is:

Everything in darkdreamz response is good except this exert.

From experience, if you go out and buy a new account, if you don't match the phone numbers and address exactly on the previous account, this can be means of locking both accounts, the one you just made, and the one you bought. This isn't a risk worth taking, because even if you transfer the toons off the original account, if the original owner recalls his/her account, and sees the toons missing, he/she simply has to open a ticket. Blizzard can see that the toons were transfered, and will reverse this after the original owner fills out the form I listed in my first post and sends his/her I.D. in.

So, I would suggest, that if you are buying an account, to not take the step of transfering it to a fresh account, it costs you money you didn't intend on spending, and can be more risky instead of protecting you.

How I know this:

I had an account keylogged back when Blizzard had transfers allowed, but didn't block the Last name on an account. This made it possible for the keylogger, to log into my account, get the name registered to the account, create a new account, and transfer the toons off. The fact he was able to do this is because Blizzard's transfer doesn't request the secret question/answer of the mother account, only the secret question/answer of the account that is having toons sent to it. To protect people from this, they started to hide the last name on an account, but that really isn't enough.
