Considering on giving them a visit but this may make or break my decision to.

Storage device examples: Phone, HDD/SSD/Ext. HDD, laptop, tablet, USB drive

It's rare.

They do have the right to search electronic devices but it's not standard procedure. The vast majority of visitors will not have their devices checked. Only the ones they for some reason estimate as high risk. So unless you know you're involved in some illegal activities and/or are unlucky to get hit by a random check it's unlikely you'll encounter this situation.

That's.. a bit more reassuring, I guess.

I was thinking I might even have to wipe my phone but some things are just better off left as is (e.g. Google Authenticator, crypto apps/wallets, etc).
Won't be fun if they asked for it

I am not sure what bothers you unless you are involved in some shady things. Remove your social media profiles, delete private messages and that's it :)

"Private things", passwords (yes I save some locally in case I forgot/locked myself out), files from across the seas, and non-filtered chats?

Basically privacy, yep.

Also while I can do that on phone - it's not really something I can do on laptop.

As Integrity already stated, yes is very rare, i just asked my friend who is from there and she confirmed that. Yes they have a right to do that but is rarely used. Australia is great so you should not skip it for this little reason.

Privacy is overrated :D
