Hello everybody,

I tried to use a gif as a profile avatar yesterday and ran into some problems.
The left gif can be used without a problem, but if i insert the right one i get 'Oops some error occured'. I already cut the size from 3mb to 600kb but still doesn't work. Is it maybe too much color or what is the problem?

Thanks in advance :)

You might want to try to go below 600 kbs then. I also had some issues on a few other forums even when the max size limit was given. So I just went a bit below and compromised the resolution. I would suggest that you try the same.

The problem is it was at the total maximum of comprimation already, the image size was like 6mb and 600kb was the lowest possible. The other gifs i inserted were even bigger than 600kb and they worked so idk what i can do now since i can't get the gif smaller as it is now.

I'm getting that error with the right one too. Tried converting it down to below 1MB and it worked.

See if this one works

Lol, thank you very much 🙏🏻

Your file is 400kb bigger than mine, but it worked for some reason.

Can be closed :)

the problem with gifs is not the size usually, buy the amount of frames it has.

When a gif is uploaded, to work correctly it has to be recreated by the system. If a gif has 10 frames, the system has to resize 10 images and resave them. If it has 100 frames, then it has to do that 100 times. Depending on how many frames your gif has, it could fail no matter the kb size.

each gif has to be resized multiple times since the gifs display at different sizes all over the site. I believe 3 times, so 10 frames is really 30.

Basically what I'm trying to say is a gif will only upload if it has a small amount of frames.

That's what i thought tho. Still curious why his gif worked well, and mine didn't and it actually looked terrible compared to his because i cut the size so rapidly.

Despite the fact you said above it's even stranger that his one worked, because i don't think he lowered the amount of frames it has.

Im not really sure why one worked and why another didn't. It's possible when he remade the gif using some optimization tool that made it easier for our system to rebuild it.
