HELP! Buyer wants username to verify account is real

Is there a way to get scammed by giving the buyer the username to a WoW account? This is my first online account sale, so I'm not certain if this is some kind of risk.

Buyer initially asked for username/pw but i refused.

Can anyone assist?

Them having the username wont be any proof.

Tell them to give you a code, (can be anything) then have your character say it ingame with a screenshot for proof. If they want proof that it's not a private server, do a /who org or /who Shatt screenshot then black out the names on paint.

While the username is not very substantial proof. I suspect he wants it to try and log in with it, if the account exists it will give an error saying "invalid password" but if the account does not exist it will say "invalid username." Showing in game should be your method of proof and if the account time is expired send him a screen shot of the character transfer page. Don't give him the username, its not good proof and he could be trying to view your secret question and make attempts at guessing it (if he could also guess you email SQA.)
