With the announcement that they’re planning on adding new housing wards in Final Fantasy XIV, a lot of players are scrambling to earn enough money to buy themselves a plot of their own. Unfortunately, money making opportunities for lower level players are somewhat limited. There is a way to make a lot of money in a relatively short amount of time. You won’t even need to have any class leveled to 50.

You will need:

  • MIN 20
  • LTW 15
  • Any Disciple of War or Magick class up to 16
  • At least one retainer (You will have to have completed the Main Story Quest “The Scions of the Seventh Dawn” to unlock this)
  • A lot of patience
This method is extremely grind-heavy. Granted, any of the necessary materials are something that you can get off of the market board, but that can get a little expensive. If all you want to spend is your time, continue reading this guide.

First of all, make your way to Eastern Thanalan. This is going to be your new home. If you haven’t yet, attune yourself to the aetheryte in Camp Drybone, and consider setting it as your home point for the time being.

Since you have completed the main quest up to The Scions of the Seventh Dawn, you should be able to comfortably defeat the Myotragus Billies and Nannies that spawn in this area.

You’re going to want to grind these for Aldgoat Skins. Personally, I like to do a little circuit around the area. Enough of them spawn far enough apart from each other that by the time I get back to the area where I started the ones I killed at the beginning of my circuit will have respawned. There will also be a FATE that will occasionally pop up: Men Who See Goats. This is another good opportunity to grind the goats in this area.

I like to do this until I have two or three stacks of skins, but that depends entirely on how much you enjoy running around murdering mobs.
Once you have all the Aldgoat Skins you feel you need, it’s time to move on to the next step. Swap over to miner and head to the gathering nodes over here.

You’re looking for Alumen. Gather as much of it as you want. At least as many units of Alumen as you do of Aldgoat Skins. In fact, I would suggest getting a fair bit more of the Alumen. At least another stack’s worth.

Once you’re all set with your materials, it’s time to swap over to Leather Worker. Assuming you’ve unlocked the level 15 recipes and have enough earth shards you should be good to go. I usually pop back into a sanctuary before starting crafting, but that’s really up to you.

It’s time to craft some goat leather. Once you craft it once, you’ll be able to auto-synth it. Set it up to make as many as you’re able, and just let it run. This would be a good time to make yourself a sandwich or check your email.

If you run out of Earth Shards, you can also mine those up. You can find them in Cedarwood and Treespeak.

Once you’re out of skins, it’s time to move on to the next phase of the plan. Selling our leather.

Depending on the whims of the Marketboard, you’ll be able to sell even normal quality skins for anywhere from 100-500 Gil a pop. With the newest patch bringing the stack cap up to 999, even our most conservative estimates put us at almost 10,000 Gil for a full stack. If you keep at it for long enough, you’ll unlock the next big step in our money making scheme. Toad Leather.

The steps are all the same except instead of grinding goats, you’re grinding toads. I like to grind on the Nix outside Mor Dohna, but there are other places to gather toad skins from. I often find that I get lucky, and they will drop 4-5 skins at a time. The area they spawn in isn’t quite large enough for the first Nix I kill to spawn by the time I finish my circuit, but the wait isn’t terrible. Nix are a required monster for a sidequest in this area, so there may be a little competition for these mobs every once in a while. Like the goats, Nix have a FATE that will spawn with some frequency.
Hunt: Nix.

If you’re not comfortable fighting level 40-45 enemies, you can head on over to Parata’s Peace and grind Giantoad Skins off of Laughing Toads. Hekets also drop skins, but they’re level 45 enemies. If you’re a low level, you should try to stick to the Laughing Toads.

Or you can make your way over to Costa del Sol and grind off of the Inflated Nix there, or Raincatcher Gully to grind off of the Giantoads there.

Once again, depending on how your server’s Marketboard is, you can set the price anywhere from 400-2000 Gil a piece. Giantoad leather is a material in some Glamour Prisms, so it’s a material that will always be in demand. Try to keep abreast of the pricing trends, and you should be well on your way to saving up enough Gil to become a homeowner.
