Like the other gathering classes, Fishers can turn in collectibles to Rowena for experience and profit. However, unlike the other gathering classes, a fisher has a lot less control over what sort of collectible they’re going to end up getting. Even with the abilities Fishers get after 50 to help them stack the odds in their favor, they are still ultimately at the whims of the RNG.

For instance, while I was recording footage for this guide I was rewarded with no fewer than seven Sorcerer Fishes (which Rowena is not accepting today as I write this) and precisely zero of the Icepicks I was fishing for. So if you’re going to try to catch some collectible fish, you’d best pick a god and pray first.

Since Rowena appears to have a rotating stable of fish that she wants every day, it’s important to check every time you decide to sit down and collect. For instance, some days Rowena wants Glaciar Cores, but some days she does not. If you’ve caught a fish that you know can be a turned in but isn’t good for that day, it might be worth keeping it anyway.

The important thing to remember is that each collectible takes up one space in your inventory. They cannot be stacked. With the addition of saddlebags, you have more storage than you used to, but space still isn’t infinite. Keep that in mind while you’re gathering.

Icepicks are always on Rowena’s menu, and unlike many of the fish that can be turned in, they are available at any time. Icepicks are more likely to come out during snow or blizzards, but you have a good shot with just about any weather condition. Since you won’t be a high enough level to use the Goblin Jig when you first start out, use the Stonefly Nymph as bait. It’s the next best thing.

You can find Icepicks in one of two places. The Unfrozen Pond or South Banepool. None of the monsters that live around there come close enough to the fishing hole to really bother you, so you don’t even need to pop stealth. Just don’t forget to turn on your Gathering Glove before you start.

You’ll fish normally from here. Since the collectibility on each fish is based on its length, it’s best to do what you can to force an HQ catch if you can. That means boosting your perception as much as you’re able.

At level 51 you’ll learn the skills Patience and Powerful Hookset. Patience will increase the odds of an HQ catch, but it will inflict a status that will lower your chances of actually catching a fish. Using Powerful Hookset instead of the usual Hook ability will negate this effect. As you level up you’ll unlock Precision Hookset at 56 and Patience II at 60. As far as I can tell they do exactly the same thing as their lower level counterparts, only more so.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much more I can tell you. Keep track of what you can turn in, and hope you manage to catch some before the daily reset. Happy fishing!
