What kind of protection is implied for a buyer who buys from someone whos EpicNPC verified, and vice versa for sellers? I understand that identity is verified, but how does this fact protect anyone?

Over 98% of those who are banned or have scammed someone have no verification, so by getting verified or by dealing with only verified members you are significantly increasing your safety.

In those instances where a verified member is banned, it's very rare for it to be a straight up scam. Usually it's based on a dispute where the verified user refuses to provide compensation because they think they're not at fault and disagree with the final ruling on the dispute.

Because our verification is both an automated application followed up by a manual account review, it's a lot of work for a scammer to try to get verified. The chances of them getting caught are extremely high, then if they want to try again they have to get a new Paypal account, ID and phone number, so for the most part they don't try more than once, not to say some haven't.

i see so protection boils down to scammers getting banned and being unable to create another account.

We have multiple systems in place to detect members who try to create multiple accounts, so we're able to catch a lot of them, however many still get through as no system is perfect. Those that do come back almost never try to get verified.

Of the last 100 members who got verified only 1 is banned; 99% are not. This is where the 98% number above comes from as there are slightly more bans from members that have been around longer.

During the same time-span of those 100 verified members we banned or closed 661 other accounts. This is a 1:661 ratio of Verified to non-Verified members which means non-verified members make up 99.85% of all accounts that are banned or closed. This should make it very clear that our Verification system works and works well making it much safer for our members.
