The official Chat Room rules have been added to the main forum rules post
Announcements - EpicNPC News/Announcement

These rules refer to the chat box on the forum homepage.
  • The same advertising post can only be posted twice in the view of the chat window. Meaning once a post is below the fold and you have to scroll to see it, it doesn't count anymore.
  • A maximum of unique 3 ads can be posted by a member above the fold of the scroll bar. No member should ever have more than 3 ads above the fold.

  • The above rule only refers to ads. If you are just chatting and talking to other members, you can post as much as you want as long at its not spammy.
Example of spammy posting:
So guess what?
I got a car
its a honda
it's got 4 wheels
and I just drove it home
its red too
did I mention I got a car today?

That bumps the chat too much, each post is very short and all of that info could have been posted in 1 line. This rule is at the discretion of mods, but as a rule of thumb, once you post 4 times in a row with no replies, it can be considered spammy. Even if it was broken up by 1 or 2 posts by other members, the above would still be considered spammy.

  • It is not required to have a thread to post a sale/trade offer in the chat box.

  • All rules pertaining to flaming, cursing, racist comments or anything offensive are the same as the regular forum rules found in this guideline.

Disclaimer: It is impossible to create a rule for every scenario so like everything else, it is up to the discretion of the mods to decide. If you feel you have been unfairly been given an infraction in the chat box, PM me (EpicNPC) with the time of incident and a description of what happened.

Clarification:

There rules refer to the chat box on the forum homepage.

  • Advertising posts can only be posted one time in a row per member and only twice max in the view of the chat window. Meaning once it's below the fold and you have to scroll to see it, it doesn't count anymore. Any more than that can be considered spam and members will receive an infraction.

One time in a row? Can you Clarify this other than obviously posting the same "ad" twice. My posting, as I was told by a mod, is not spam (said I didn't break this rule) but just out of curiosity how many "Lines" can be taken in an advertisement of accounts. At the moment I try to abide by the 3 Line rule. Since we can have 3 forum posts on the first page at any given time (without receiving an infraction) I feel its fair to be able to use 3 lines in advertising in chatbox. Now I use this rule if the chatbox is slow and I will bump when it falls off the "fold" as you say. If there is a greater amount of traffic in chatbox I will generally wait until it has completely fallen out of the chatbox before reposting.

Thanks in advance for the reply. As greater clarification into this will i'm sure be needed in the future.

That is meant for the same ad, so if you have different ads then 3 is ok. Just don't post the same 3 again while it's above the fold.

I'll update the rules to make it clearer about this.

Great, much better, thanks for the clarification.

Gives the mods the ability to not have such a "gray" area to be criticized about by people saying "Well, the rules didn't say it"
as well, it lets us members know EXACTLY what it would take to not get infracted.

thank you for clarifying that mike as it kind of confused me a bit aswell

Banned - 3 unresolved scam thread
Seems to be too much focus on the chat box imo, would prefer mods skimmed through threads being made and do some research on the postee, weed out the scammers - not everyone is as suspicious or has the common sense to research who they are buying from with a search on other forums, the username etc.

Just a thought as I find myself and other members doing this instead of people who I think are supposed to/should do that.
